Damita Jo's not always a singer that we dig that much, but this early full length album is a heck of a nice rockin set – thanks to strong backing vocals from Steve Gibson and The Red Caps! The instrumentation is all pretty rough and R&B-inflected – often with vamping piano bits, ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of Della Reese's greatest records – and a unique little session cut "live in the studio" before a very appreciative crowd! Bobby Bryant wrote out some very hip charts for the session, and they're made even better by organ work by Bill Doggett and piano lines by Gerald Wiggins ... LP, Vinyl record album
Jackie & Roy at the height of their ABC powers – really stepping out strongly here with a bold jazz vocal approach that nobody else can touch! Funky Shirley Bassey! This is a great set of Shirley's groove-happy work cut in the late 60s – hip tunes arranged by UK easy maestro Johnny Harris, best known for his fantastic work on the Stepping Stones record under his own name, forever a beathead classic! Features the great, funky big ... LP, Vinyl record album
Nancy's in groovy late 60s pop territory here – with swinging arrangements by Oliver Nelson, and some more mellow backings by Sid Feller. The set's not Nancy's most original album – but it's also one of the things she does best: taking songs made famous by others, and giving them a ... LP, Vinyl record album
A beautiful little album that shows a whole new side of Sinatra! Frank's a bit late on the bossa game – but the record's a wonderfully gentle batch of bossa nova tunes, performed with musical and occasional vocal accompaniment by Jobim, and larger orchestral backings by Claus Ogerman. Far ... LP, Vinyl record album
Broadway material – but given the Nancy Wilson twist – and sung in a mode that's a lot more soulful than other records of its type! Nancy's at her strong early Capitol best here – working with arranger Sid Feller in a set of tunes that get some nice syncopation and jazzy ... LP, Vinyl record album
A really classic set from vocalist Chris Connor – and one that's summed up perfectly in the "Sad Cafe" in the title! The album's got that blue, melancholy style that always worked best for Chris – a mode that's never too cool, but which has this laidback, almost ethereal ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the more obscure albums by Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross – a session of Basie tunes, performed with backing by the Count, plus additional lead vocals by Joe Williams, the voice most closely associated with the Basie group at the time! The style is similar to the trio's Sing A Song Of ... LP, Vinyl record album
