cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
A sweet, smooth stepper from the great Randy Brown – and a record that's got the same sublime mix of mellow grooves and earthy vocals that you might find on some of Tyrone Davis' best late 70s work for Columbia! Tunes are all plenty darn fresh – written by the team of Homer Banks and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Man, these guys never seem to miss – and always come up with some great little tunes that snap along in a really compelling way! This album might be easy to overlook in favor of the band's bigger classics, but it's a stone winner all the way through – with a number of tunes that groove ... LP, Vinyl record album
Sexy soul magic from LJ Johnson – not to be confused with ex-Dramatic LJ Reynolds, but a great singer in his own right! LJ's got a sweet vocal approach that's almost that you'd hear from earlier years, on east coast vocal group records – but here, he's working in a fuller, richer mode ... LP, Vinyl record album
A really great album by Eugene McDaniels! This one's not as radical as his Headless Heroes LP – but it's got a jazzy soulful approach that shows that he could still keep it real without going over the top. Oddly, he's billed as Gene McDaniels on the cover, leaving us to wonder if he's ... LP, Vinyl record album
Fantastic funky orchestral stuff from this great Chicago soul arranger! Johnny was working with The Impressions during these years, but ABC gave him a chance to cut some instrumental sides on his own – and the record's a wonderful groover with some complicated numbers that remind us a bit of ... Not Vernon's most fantastic record – but a jazzy bit of 80s groove, with a number of tight midtempo tracks. The record was produced by James Gadson – who also plays drums on the set – and it features arrangements by Richard Evans and Ernie Fields. Tracks include "Fun ... LP, Vinyl record album
Mad mad funk, and the fantastic second LP by the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band – the group that proved to everyone that LA could be just as funky as any other city in the 60s! The record draws strongly from the group's indie roots in the funky 45 scene – and the album's filled with ... LP, Vinyl record album
A masterpiece – and don't pass it up! Sure, the date's a bit later than some of Roy's classic work, but the record's got a sound like no other – with a slow mellow jazzy style that shows Roy working at the height of his powers! There's some wonderful spacey production on the record ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the best things to ever happen to The Persuaders – a wonderfully rich album that has the group still sparkling strongly, long after their early hits! The harmonies are wonderful – very much on par with the bigger names at Philly International at the time – and recorded ... LP, Vinyl record album
Very obscure LP by what seems to be a lost Chicano funk group from Chicago. Released by the small Pipas label on the south side, the LP includes a nice cover of "Funky Nassau", plus covers of "Do Me Right", "Simple Song", and "Them Changes". The LP also ... LP, Vinyl record album
Another one of the really good Lou Rawls albums from the late 60's. David Axelrod produced, and the drums are nice and hard, especially on "I Can't Make It Alone", which he arranged. Other tracks include "Give Me Your Love" (not the Curtis Mayfield song), "When She ... LP, Vinyl record album
