It's Been A Long Time

LP (Item 28268) RCA, 1973 — Condition: Very Good
One of the nicest early albums by this great 70s soul collective – featuring a strong mix of funk and mellow soul tracks, with backing by the Nite Liters on some tracks, and production by the great Harvey Fuqua throughout! Titles include "Wild Flower", "It's Been A Long Time", "Keep On Doing It", "Pains of Love", "Ain't No Change", and "Heaven Says".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Orange label pressing. Cover has a split spine, light ring wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Jose Feliciano

Feliciano!
RCA, 1968. Very Good+
An amazing record! By all rights, this shouldn't be so good – but it's an incredible album of haunting tracks that really has us coming back again and again over the years. The formula is simple: Jose plays late 60s pop tunes on acoustic guitar, and sings them in his spacey soulful voice. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jose Feliciano

Bag Full Of Soul
RCA, 1966. Very Good+
Great early work from Jose Feliciano – and definitely the "bag full of soul" promised in the title, as the album's got a wonderfully heartfelt feel all the way through! Chocolate Milk

Milky Way
RCA, 1979. Very Good
Tight, funky, and plenty darn groovy – a set that has Chocolate Milk sounding a lot smoother than at their start, but still pretty darn great overall! RCA, 1981. Very Good+ Gatefold
Diana Ross makes a big break with Motown for this debut set on RCA – a set that also has the singer making a nice stylistic break as well! RCA, 1972. Very Good
Excellent album that Harvey Fuqua put together with his old band during the time that he had emerged as a successful soul producer at RCA working with bands like The Nite Liters and The New Birth. A landmark set from The Hues Corporation – and a record that's really poised at the crossroads of 70s soul! The group are probably best known for the super-huge hit "Rock The Boat" – a tune that bubbled under in discos for months, then became one of the first mainstream ... LP, Vinyl record album

Evelyn King

RCA, 1981. Very Good+
One of the real standouts in Evelyn King's career – a sharply focused album that's filled with catchy 80s styled tunes – and which benefits from some great help from a young Kashif! Lots of the tracks have that great flair for a catchy hook that mark's Evelyn's best work – an ... LP, Vinyl record album

Friends Of Distinction

Greatest Hits
RCA, Late 60s/Early 70s. Sealed
Fab pop harmony soul! The Friends Of Distinction were LA counterparts of the 5th Dimension – and at one time, members of both groups had worked under the name of Rex Middleton's Hi Fi's. Unlike the 5th Dimension, who were a bit more pop, the Friends Of Distinction stayed more in the soul ... LP, Vinyl record album

Main Ingredient

Music Maximus
RCA, 1976. Near Mint-
Wicked work from The Main Ingredient – a set that's even fuller and funkier than before, yet still a perfect setting for the tremendous harmonies of the trio! The "Roman orgy" cover makes this one look like it might be more of a disco effort – but the overall sound is a sweet ... LP, Vinyl record album

Deniece Williams

Niecy
Columbia, 1982. Near Mint-
Totally great work from Deniece Williams – still mostly free from the tinny pop of later years, and done in a solidly soulful style at Sigma Sound, with arrangements and production from the mighty Thom Bell! The groove is almost an update of 70s Philly, with traces of the maturing mellow ... LP, Vinyl record album
ABC, 1978. Sealed
A sweet little album from Shotgun – one of those 70s funk ensembles who never cracked the big time, but who manage to sound all that much fresher because of that!
