Cool Velvet – Stan Getz & Strings

LP (Item 28200) Verve, Mid 50s — Condition: Very Good+
An incredibly haunting session that has Stan's edgey alto fronting some of Russ Garcia's arch-modernist string arrangements – similar to those that he contributed to other Verve albums of the same style. Getz maintains a wonderfully breathy tone that floats above the orchestrations, and the album's a real winner that shows a side of Stan that wasn't always captured by Verve. Titles include "Round Midnight", "Nature Boy", "It Never Entered My Mind", and "Early Autumn".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Focus
Verve, 1961. Very Good+ Gatefold
Oft-overlooked album that's actually one of Getz's most far-reaching of the 60s! A lost chapter in the Stan Getz sound of the 60s – an album that features Stan blowing in front of some beautiful backdrops set by Lalo Schifrin and Claus Ogerman! The swing is soft by the sound is never sleepy – thanks to some always-great tenor work from Stan Getz!
