Gettin' Together

LP (Item 2800) Jazzland, 1960 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

LP, Vinyl record album

4.90 5

Hard edged jazz stuff, featuring the great tenorist in a spare (and rare) setting away from Duke Ellington's band. Wynton Kelly, Jimmy Cobb, Nat Adderley, and Sam Jones lay down a nice soulful groove with a deep bottom, and Gonsalves plays with warmth and imagination throughout. The set includes two of Babs Gonzales' great compositions: "Low Gravy" and "Gettin' Together". (OJC pressing.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

An excellent album by Dexter Gordon – his first after a number of years spent without recording in the late 50s, and one that marked a real return to serious growth as a player during the 60s! Cruisin' Featuring The Rhythm Sections
Jazzland, Late 50s. Very Good-
A pretty cool-looking Jazzland album that combines tracks from 2 other earlier Riverside albums – one that we've identified as Clark Terry's Serenade To A Bus Seat, the other we're not sure of. Side 1 features Kelly, Jones, Paul Chambers, Johnny Griffin, and Clark Terry on the tunes "Sta ... LP, Vinyl record album

An unusual record for vibist Johnny Lytle – one that has him breaking from his usual trio formation, to work in a super-tight lineup that includes some soul jazz heavyweights! An incredible album, and one of Strozier's best! The record is an excellent example of the maturity and modernism that was coming out of the Chicago jazz scene as it hit the early 60s – and it features Strozier's soulful alto in the company of some of the city's best players, like pianist ... Columbia, 1969. Near Mint- 2 LP Gatefold
One of the few cases in jazz where an oft-played classic still resonates with power! A great early CTI session by George Benson, and one of the most stripped-down, straight-ahead funky records he did for the label!
