12-inch, Vinyl record

Nice early stuff from El Coco – with more of a funky sound than later work! "Let's Get it Together" is a nice club groover, stretched out to 6 minutes here – with some great keyboards drifting in and out of midtempo beats – almost in a P&P sort of mode, but a bit more classy overall! (Cover has splitting on the seams & some light wear.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Hit work from the legendary Peter Brown – a key player in far more club sides than we can remember, but a real chart-topper with this one! You may know the a-side, which is offered here in a nice long take with a drum break in the middle – but don't miss "Burning Love", which ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

A great little boogie groove from Wrecking Crew – not the west coast group, but one of the few midwest acts to work on the Erect label! "Chance To Dance" bounces along with a nice sort of ensemble funk mode – male vocals in the lead, but mixed vocals in support – ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Brunswick, 1979. Very Good-
What can we say? This is a classic! The track has a monster roller skating groove that's been sampled more than a few times over the years – but which still sounds incredible on its own! Uno Melodic, 1982. Very Good+
A nice jazzy groover from Roy – lifted off his Uno Melodic LP, and offered here in long and short versions! The track's kind of up there with some of Roy's nice dancefloor tracks from the late 70s on Polydor – and it's one of the few 12" singles you'll ever find by him! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Just In Time/Kick It Out
TEC, Late 70s. Very Good+
Pre-Mercury work by Heaven & Earth – cut with a sound that's a bit rougher, but still pretty darn nice! The group exhibit their strength in both the ensemble funk mode and the group harmony style – and the single's a nice piece of the puzzle for their early career! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Uno Melodic, 1980. Near Mint-
A classic club track by this Roy Ayers side project – presented here on an original Uno Melodic 12" single! Roy wrote the track with Edwin Birdsong, and it's got a lot of nice popping and quirky funk bits, similar to Edwin's "Rapper Dapper Snapper", of the same vintage. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Motown, 1986. Very Good+ (pic cover)
At the time this was issued, these tracks had not yet been released, though they've subsequently shown up on a number of the expanded CD reissues that have been put out since this release.
