LP, Vinyl record album

Great smooth soul from Wee Gee – a wonderful little record from the dawn of the 80s! The album's a great one, thanks largely to Vernon Bullock, who wrote, arranged, and produced with that uptempo modern style that he brought to his best work of the 70s. The soaring title track is a 10+ minute epic that really transcends – hitting an emotional groove early and holding it throughout – and the rest of the tunes are just as nice! Wee Gee's a pretty decent vocalist – and the lofty arrangements keep him in the groove in a mode that's similar to some of Lamont Dozier's best work. The keys and synthesizers are nice – never oversteeped in ways that mired modern soul later in the decade and they go very will with the larger arrangements! Titles include "Hold On (To Your Dreams)", "Let Me Lay With You", "You've Been A Part Of Me", "Remember The Love", and "Don't Make Me The Reason".  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

From The Inside
Polydor, 1974. Very Good
Cool stuff! In the tradition of The Escorts or The Prisoners, these guys were a funk group that were actually convicts during the early 70s – in lockdown at Graterford Prison in Pennsylvania, where they were discovered by James Brown (once a jailbird himself – and later to be as well), ... JB's wildest album, with a crazy cover that shows him running away from the devil, and great gatefold inner photo with him standing amidst a bunch of declarations of "Hell". Pipas, Early 70s. Sealed
Very obscure LP by what seems to be a lost Chicano funk group from Chicago. Released by the small Pipas label on the south side, the LP includes a nice cover of "Funky Nassau", plus covers of "Do Me Right", "Simple Song", and "Them Changes". The LP also ... LP, Vinyl record album

An overlooked bit of crossover funk from Chas Jankel – best known both as the musical force of Ian Dury & The Blockheads during the late 70s, and as the composer of "Ai No Corrida", which was covered more famously by Quincy Jones!
