LP (Item 26948) MPS, 1981 — Condition: Very Good+
(€9.75 || £8.63 || ¥1318) (approx.)

Mellow guitar/piano duets between Monty Alexander and his favorite bandmate, the Jamaican guitarist Ernest Ranglin. The tracks are relatively short, with mostly standards, done in a warm intimate way. Titles include "Con Alma", "Taboo", "Cruxian Dance", and "Lullaby Of The Leaves". (US pressing on PA/USA.)  © 1996-2018, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A great album of funky fusion for MPS! Keyboardist Joachim Kuhn heads up the group, but he's got some great rhythm backing from Alphonse Mouzon on drums and John Lee on bass, which makes the record groove way way more than some of his other titles! MPS (Germany), 1975. Near Mint-
Great solo piano work from Martial Solal – still somewhat modern and angular, but with a slightly warmer style than some of his earlier recordings in this mode! MPS, 1974. Very Good+
Funky and Latiny! Although we don't normally dig records by George Shearing, this cool 1974 session for MPS is a nice groover with a good 70's sound that adds a lot of tight rhythm to Shearing's often-sleepy playing – coming up with a whole new sound that has some really wonderful moments! ... Classic MPS session by funky pianist Monty Alexander! Chicago reed player Ed Wilkerson (also known as the leader of 8 Bold Souls, and a member of the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble) formed this group in the 80's as sort of a mixed large band of Chicago avant garde players, but with more of a focus on tighter swingin' sounds. A nicely distilled collection pulled together for issue in the mid 70s, of Charlie Parker's work for Savoy Records – done between the years 1944-1948, with some of the best talents in the bop business!
