Nobody But Lou

LP (Item 26826) Capitol, Late 60s — Condition: Very Good

Great early stuff by Lou! No, the record doesn't have funky David Axelrod arrangements – but it does have some great jazzy backing by Benny Carter, which gives Lou's sweet soulful voice a great platform to riff off of. The record's one of Lou's jazziest, and it's mostly tight and swinging – without some of the cliches on other work of this sort. Titles include "Nobody But Me", "If I Had My Life To Live Over", "Power Of Love", "It's Monday Every Day", and "Two Tickets West".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Shades Of Blue
Philadelphia International, 1980. Near Mint-
One of Lou Rawls' last albums for Philly International, and a really nice departure from the style of Lou's earlier hits for the label. It's got a sophisticated jazzy mode that has Rawls often singing with sparer piano backings than the fuller strings of the late 70s – in a way that's sort ... LP, Vinyl record album

Carryin' On!
Capitol, Late 60s. Near Mint-
One of Lou's excellent Capitol sessions produced by David Axelrod! The record's not an outwardly funky one, but Axe gives the set a nice loping groove on the best tracks – the sound that he brought to his best work with Rawls, and which really put him over the top back in the 60s. Not as hit-heavy as some of Lou's other albums for Philly International, but a nice batch of mellow jazzy soul tracks – with arrangements by Thom Bell, Bunny Sigler, Dexter Wansel, and others.
