King Sporty was one of the lesser-known players in the Miami scene of the 70s – but his work for TK is right up there with the label's better club tracks. This single sports production by George Perry, and a pretty nice flanged-out disco sound on both tracks. (In a TK sleeve.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

TK, 1979. Near Mint-
What can we say? "Ring My Bell" was one of the biggest crossover disco tracks of the late 70s – with a cool electronic groove on the beat, and lyrics and production by Frederick Knight, making the southern soul singer one of the more unlikely disco forces of the time. This 12" ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
TK, 1979. Very Good
Great work from this excellent ensemble funk outfit! "Dance Sing Along" has a perfectly tight sound that always makes our jaw drop – complete with an electric jazzy riff that feels like it was lifted for the first Tribe Called Quest album, and harmony vocals that hold together in ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
TK, 1980. Very Good
A great bit of party funk – even if it's missing Blowfly's vocals! The track's an excellent groover that steps along in a real old school groove – stretched out with snapping beats and lots of guitar and keyboard touches, plus crowd noises, and some occasional vocalizations from Blow ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Sugar Hill, 1982. Near Mint-
A killer single from Trouble Funk, on Sugar Hill, with the band's trade mark percussive riffing, and as you'd expect from go go, loads of nice fills and breakdowns all centered around a fat rolling bass pedal groove. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Polydor, 1980. Very Good+
A great track from Roy Ayers – and one that's often overlooked! The cut's a smooth mellow stepper, with a nice jazzy vibe, and a wonderful monologue from Roy at the beginning (he's trying to pick up a girl). The cut got kind of buried on the Love Fantasy LP – so it's extra nice to ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Uno Melodic, 1982. Very Good+
A nice jazzy groover from Roy – lifted off his Uno Melodic LP, and offered here in long and short versions! The track's kind of up there with some of Roy's nice dancefloor tracks from the late 70s on Polydor – and it's one of the few 12" singles you'll ever find by him! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Sugar Hill, 1982. Very Good+
Old school track from Sugar Hill's female trio that does not feature the classic Sugar Hill rhythm section, but instead uses a more synthetic sound, along the lines of maybe the Dazz Band. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Unidisc, 1991. Very Good+
A great club track from Plunky and Oneness of Ju Ju with some jazzy riffing, smooth washes of keyboards and an unstoppable bassline! 12-inch, Vinyl record
20th Century, 1977. Very Good+
A funky funky thumper from Barry White – and one of his last truly genius tracks! "Ecstasy" is presented here in a long long version that lets the tune's initial bass and drum interplay stretch out magnificently – sliding and slinking along in a classic White-styled groove, ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Chi Sound, Late 70s. Very Good+
Gene's hit his modern soul stride on this one – grooving nicely on "I'll Make The Living", done in a smooth voiced approach that shows yet another chapter in his rich career as a singer! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Salsoul, 1980. Very Good
Larry Levan worked some incredible magic with Skyy's "Skyzoo" – turning a simple funk tune into a massive bit of dancefloor groove! The cut rolls out with a snapping, chanting beat from the very first note – hitting a nice party funk vibe in the first part, then moving into ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
