Julio Gutierrez & Los Guajiros

LP (Item 26613) Gema, Late 60s — Condition: Very Good+
Groovy! Julio Gutierrez is probably best known for his work on some of the early Cuban Jam Session LPs, but this great lost album from the late 60s has him leading a combo through a wild bunch of messed-up boogaloo and Latin Soul tunes that are just great! The band has a nice electric guitar, a female singer on some tracks, and a stone Latin groove throughout. The overall sound is a mix of many different 60s styles – Latin, soul, rock, and pop – and it's very fresh, and very entertaining. Includes versions of "A Man & A Woman", "Cast Your Fate To The Wind", and "Music To Watch Girls By" – plus the guitar-driven "Guiro", the groovy "Dance Go Go Girl", and the party-oriented "Ooooh . . . It's Happening Baby!"  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original black label US pressing! Cover has a cutout hole in one corner, which is slightly bumped, and a small stain on back – but this is a great copy overall!)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Nonesuch, 1968. Very Good+
A landmark early recording from Morton Subotnick – and a piece of music that really pushed analogue electronics forward from the previous academic generation!
