4.60 6

A monster groover in the 50s, Perez kept putting out excellent work long into the 60s – as this tasty 1965 RCA session will attest! The album's a nice mix of cha cha and uptempo tracks, with some cuts that are standards, and others that sort of tight Latin pop that Prado was so good at. Titles include "Cricket Serenade", "Adios Pamp Mia", "Surfside 6", "Keep Dancing", "Cucara, Cha Cha Cha", "La Rubia", and "Romana". (Original 60s mono pressing – in beautiful shape!)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Atlantic, 1971. Very Good
Sockin soul work from Mongo Santamaria – a real killer of an album, with a dope 70s sound! The album features Mongo hitting a nice blacksploitation mode – fuller arrangements than before, plus lots of electric touches on guitar, bass, and keyboards. Marty Sheller did most of the ... Fania, Early 70s. Near Mint- Gatefold
Killer early work by the Fania All Stars – caught live at the legendary Cheetah club, which was the heart of the New York salsa scene at the start of the 70s! Quite late in his career for Machito – but a great set nonetheless, with some hard-hitting Latin jazz arrangements that are some of his best work in years! Kelly Great
Vee Jay, 1960. Very Good+
One of Wynton Kelly's greatest albums, and an all-star hardbop session that includes Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones. With Philly Joe on drums, and Morgan and Shorter, the LP almost has the feel of a classic Art Blakey session for Blue Note, but Kelly's piano gives ... LP, Vinyl record album
