One of the best-remembered records by this classic ensemble – thanks to a sweet vocal take on "Nina Never Knew", the playful sound of "Doodletown Fifers", and other cuts that include "Eddie & The Witch Doctor", "Azure-Te", "Stop Sit Down Relax Think", and "Rain". Classic Jim Flora cover, too! (Silver & red label pressing with deep groove. Cover has clear tape on the seams and spine.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Shorty Rogers courts Count Basie – but he does so in a way that's definitely all his own! The material may have Basie roots, but the overall execution is Shorty at his early 50s best – in a way that makes the album one of his strongest for RCA at the time – and that's saying a ... The 4th in Bob James legendary run of Fender Rhodes classics for CTI – and a record that still has him working with the dark edges that made the first few so great! As usual with these sets, there's a way of putting over the groove that's really unique – not really funky, but spacious ... LP, Vinyl record album
