Friedrich Gulda — Fata Morgana – Friedrich Gulda Live At The Domicile ... CD 16.99
A beautiful groover on MPS – with the kind of heavenly off-kilter sound that made the label so great during the early 70s! The album features a strange group that includes Gulda on piano, Fritz Pauer on electric piano, and Klaus Weiss on drums. The mixture of acoustic and electric piano at the same time is very very cool – and Weiss' drums are always nice and hard, and keep the whole session grooving along nicely! Pauer wrote all the tracks, and he plays the electric piano as sort of a bubbling rhythmic instrument with a very groovy edge – over which Gulda solos with tight virtuosity. Cuts include the slightly funky groover "Sunshine", the dark and moody "Fata Morgana, which opens into a nice funky passage in one part, and the track "Encore". Nice stuff!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Heavy red label pressing!)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

One of George Duke's best albums for the MPS label – and a set that has a sound that's a little bit more soul than before! Freddie Hubbard

Hub Of Hubbard
MPS, 1969. Very Good Gatefold
A classic European date from Freddie Hubbard – recorded right around the vintage of his Red Clay years, but with a sound that hearkens back more towards his Blue Note sessions of the mid 60s! All Blues
MPS (Germany), 1969. Near Mint- Gatefold
An excellent Clarke Boland Big Band LP – very much in the spirit of the group's best work of the era – one that uses the blues of the title merely as springboard for their ebullient big band groove!
