Ridin' High

LP (Item 25923) Gordy, 1968 — Condition: Very Good+

After a few years a Motown's big crossover chart star, how could Martha not be Riding High? This album keeps the groove right on rolling, with a strident batch of girl soul tracks that includes a mixture of pop and Motown tunes – including "Forget Me Not", "Honey Chile", "I Promise To Wait My Love", "I'm In Love", and "Show Me The Way".  © 1996-2022, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Purple label pressing with deep groove. Cover has splitting on the spine and top seam, a cutout hole, and light surface wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Rick James

Glow
Gordy, 1985. Sealed
Rick James hits a smoother sort of style here – one that's almost a compressed take on the mainstream version of funk first crafted on his earlier records, fused into a more radio-friendly approach for the Prince generation! Temptations

Touch Me
Gordy, 1985. Sealed
Mid 80s magic from the Temptations – a record that shouldn't be as great as it is, given the lame title and cover image – but which still has the group working at a top level! There's a lot of strong generational interplay here between the talents of Otis Williams and Ali-Ollie Woodson ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dennis Edwards

Coolin' Out
Gordy, 1985. Sealed
A second solo set from Temptation Dennis Edwards – a great set of mellow modern soul, with a very 80s approach to the production and arrangements. Break Thru
Gordy, 1978. Near Mint-
An obscure Motown group from the end of the 70s – 21st Creation had a soaring uptempo group sound that reminds us of some of the more successful disco hits of Tavares from the same time. Aretha's Gold

It's hard to believe that after just a few short years of recording for Atlantic records, Aretha Franklin could come up with enough gold records to warrant a full album of hits for the label – but that's definitely the case with this classic collection from 1969! One of Eddie's monster LPs of the 70s!
