4 Batutas & 1 Coringa

LP (Item 25514) Continental (Brazil), 1987 — Condition: Very Good-
Nice! Although the early work of Jards Macale from the 70s was a lot more experimental, this album features this oft-overlooked Brazilian singer doing a nice batch of material that pays tribute to some of Brazil's greatest singers from an earlier age. Macale's voice is as fantastic as always – and the record features some nice arrangements by Julio Medaglia, who gets a great feel for the material. Titles include "Torre De Babel", "Acertei No Milhar", "Palhaco", "Ministerio Da Economia", "Para Ver As Meninas", and "A Flor E O Espinho".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A rare 80s set from Astrud Gilberto – cut at a time when she was hardly doing any new recording at all! Beautiful! This is perhaps one of the greatest records ever by this legendary Brazilian vocal group – and the album's a stunning mix of post-bossa arrangements, and the more baroque sort that some Brazilian groups were using at the time. Roberto Menescal produced the album – and one ... LP, Vinyl record album

O Sucesso E Samba
Odeon (Brazil), 1968. Fair
Great stuff from Walter Wanderley – and a refreshing change from his work on Verve! The record's dated 1968, but we're kind of guessing that the tracks date from earlier years – although we're not sure. Most of the material's as sophisticated as anything Walter was cutting in the US ... LP, Vinyl record album

A great little live set from Maria Bethania – one recorded with the lighter, looser sound she was using in the early 80s – and which stands as a nice contrast to her more dramatic concert performances of the 70s!
