Caetano Veloso (1986)

LP (Item 25504) Nonesuch, 1986 — Condition: Near Mint-
A beautifully spare album from Caetano Veloso – one of his greatest albums of the 80s, and quite unlike anything else he did in the decade! The sound here is almost a bit like Joao Gilberto's classic 1973 album for Polydor – mostly just acoustic guitar and vocals, recorded with a slight echo and a really warm feel overall – a quality that offers up a whole new side of Veloso's genius, with only a bit of added percussion on a few tracks. Caetano's vocals are wonderful – personal, intimate, and very rich, despite the quite setting – and titles include "Get Out Of Town", "Terra", "Nega Lauca/Billie Jean/Eleanor Rigby", "Luz Do Sol', "Trilhos Urbanhos", "Odara", and "Saudosismo".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the insert. Cover has a cutout hole, small stickers at the top left, some light scrapes, and is bent a bit at the spine and bottom seam.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Caetano Veloso

Muitos Carnavais
Philips (Brazil), 1977. Near Mint-
A lively album that mixes Caetano's rich songwriting style with a hard percussive base – a more grooving approach than usual – which gives the tracks a fast jumpy feel, and gives even more power to Caetano's strong vocals! There's some slight post-Tropicalia touches at time – a ... LP, Vinyl record album

(Cover has some ring and edge wear, small sticker remnants at the top right, clear tape at the corners, and is bent a bit at the edges and corners.) LP, Vinyl record album
Pointer (Brazil), 1984. Near Mint-
A nice batch of jazzy tracks by this under-recognized Brazilian singer – recorded for the Pointer label, with the kind of strong fusion backing that was the stock in trade of the label at the time. Filo's vocals are great, and very soulful – and he also plays a good deal of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Luiz Bonfa

Luiz Bonfa
Dot, Mid 60s. Near Mint-
A pretty great little album from Bonfa – always one of the more corruptible bossa players, working here in a groovy set of pop arrangements by Deodato with a lively American twist! Some tunes are fast-driving bossa numbers with good jazz accompaniment, others have backing vocals in a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Epic, 1966. Near Mint-
One of the better early bossa albums by Bonfa, and one that doesn't have the sleepy quality that you find on some of his other records. Luiz' guitar is backed by a nice little combo, and the tracks have a lively rhythm, with occasional vocals, and some nice flute solos from time to time. The ... LP, Vinyl record album

Astrud Gilberto

Shadow Of Your Smile
Verve, 1965. Very Good
One of Astrud Gilberto's greatest albums – and quite possibly our personal favorite! Voz E Suor
EMI (Brazil), 1983. Very Good
A warm intimate set by these two legendary Brazilian talents – Nana Caymmi on vocals, and the legendary Cesar Camargo Mariano playing some wonderfully mellow keyboards. Roy Ayers

Lifeline
Polydor, 1977. Very Good+ Gatefold
One of Roy Ayers' best-remembered albums of the 70s – a sublime blend of mellow numbers and some of his more club-oriented grooves of the time – all wrapped together with a genius that we can only describe as Ayers-like! The album's a beautiful example of the balance that Roy was ... LP, Vinyl record album
