Twine Time/The Bump

7-inch (Item 25349) Mar V Lus, 1963 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

7-inch

What can we say? "Twine Time" is one of the all-time classics – and it's still the best-remembered track by this legendary funky 45 artist. "The Bump" is pretty darn nice, too – and this one's not a 70s bump track, but a harder, 60s one! (Yellow "Mushroom cloud" label pressing. Label has a bit of marker on one side.)  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Philly Freeze/Do It One More Time
Mar V Lus, Late 60s. Very Good+
2 hard soul grovers from Alvin Cash! "Philly Freeze" has Alvin shouting "it's not the Twine", but rolls around in a nice sexy Twine groove, with Alvin shouting "freeze" every now and then. And the "It" in "One More Time" is "The Twine", ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Barracuda/Do It One More Time
Mar V Lus, Early 60s. Near Mint-
Classic hard-grooving Alvin Cash – with that early Mar V Lus sound that feels like it was recorded at the bottom of a well! Not that that's a problem, though, as the approach makes the single bump and groove right off your turntable! "Barracuda" is a funky funky fishy dance – ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Call it a love of dancers or just plain Quincy groove – the album's got lots of nice tight tracks that are a perfect showcase for the ways in which Quincy had such a huge influence on jazz in the 60s! The tunes are often old standards, but done here in a style that's nicely syncopated – ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Linco, 1971. Very Good+
A sock-soul number with a fast funky feel – tightly snapping the groove with a sound in the back that feels a lot like an Eddie Harris Varitone sax – one that takes over completely from the vocals, partying it hard with some crowd noises on part 2! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Linco, Early 70s. Very Good
Nice rollicking track with a good stompin' feel to it, and some very tasty organ. Oddly, the first part is the instrumental one – and we like it a bit more than the vocal side. Nice live "party" feel in the studio, too. 7-inch, Vinyl record

Ariola, 1979. Very Good+
Both sides are excellent jazzy modern soul tracks by this oft-overlooked soul group from the 70's. Very nice sound, with tight tight production, and a sweet soulful vibe that's very satisfying. 7-inch, Vinyl record

Thanks Dad (parts 1 & 2)
GSF, 1973. Very Good+
Rare work by Joe Quarterman – a funky funky gem that wasn't included on his only LP! "Thanks Dad" is a tight little groover with that hard bottom you'd find in Joe's best work – hitting on a nice little clavinet groove that snaps the keys underneath Joe's great vocals! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Polydor, 1972. Very Good
Fantastic! Both sides feature Hank with James Brown & The JBs, and the groove is hard and funky in the best early 70's tradition. "From The Love Side" has a stone cold JBs groove, and "Finger Poppin" is a funky 70's remake of Hank's classic. Great great stuff, and very ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Gimme Some (parts 1 & 2)
Down To Earth, Late 60s. Very Good+
Very nice funky stuff! This may be the best single ever by this lost Chicago funk artist. It's got a great hard groove, in a very James Brown way, and raw heavy lyrics in the best funky 45 tradition. 7-inch, Vinyl record
