A lost chapter in the Stan Getz sound of the 60s – an album that features Stan blowing in front of some beautiful backdrops set by Lalo Schifrin and Claus Ogerman! The sound is super mellow – dreamy, but never sleepy – with Stan blowing in these soulful, magical, exploratory lines that sweep and swirl with his best 60s work. The sound is incredible – a whole new level of genius to a player who'd already recorded in so many other strong modes at the time – and titles include "Sleeping Bee", "Nitetime Street", "Early Autumn", "Charade", "Love", and "Reflections".  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Stan Getz At Large
Verve, 1960. Fair 2LP Gatefold
A tremendous start to the 60s for the legendary Stan Getz – a unique double-length album recorded in Copenhagen – and filled with some of his best work on record to date! There's a quality here that shows a whole new side of Getz – one that's slightly modern at times, but also ... LP, Vinyl record album

Roost, Early 50s. Very Good
Beautiful early bop material by Getz – recorded at Storyville with a crack little combo that includes Al Haig on piano and Jimmy Raney on guitar. The Raney/Getz sound is a great one – with Raney's jangly guitar notes providing a nice edge for Getz's smoother alto. Titles include " ... LP, Vinyl record album

The title's a bit misleading, but the record's a great one! Oddly, the album's not a follow up to the West Coast Jazz album by Stan Getz – firstly, because it wasn't actually done on the west coast, and secondly, because this one was actually recorded two years before! But that doesn't stop ... LP, Vinyl record album

Verve, Early 60s. Near Mint-
Part of a 4 volume set, all recorded on one night in Denmark. The set is a Norm Granz JATP transplantation to the European stage, and features the sort of group you'd imagine, with stars like Coleman Hawkins, Don Byas, Benny Carter & Roy Eldridge. Unlike the other volumes in the set, where ... LP, Vinyl record album

Totally totally cool LP that has this groovy group playing with Oliver Nelson – who plays soprano on most tracks. The sound is very groovy, and very Now Sound, with a female vocal duet, and mod swingin' jazzy lyrics. The LP's got a nice version of "My Favorite Things", a cool ... LP, Vinyl record album

One volume of a four volume set, though Verve didn't number them. Recorded in concert one night in Denmark, this set is a Norm Granz production that transplants the JATP crew to Europe. Verve, 1966. Very Good- Gatefold
Jimmy pays tribute to an earlier generation of R&B – in a hard-wailing set of soul jazz, done with backings from the legendary Oliver Nelson! A few tracks feature vocals by Jimmy, in a rough bluesy style, and others have some harmonica by Buddy Lucas – in a raspy, hard-wailing mode ... LP, Vinyl record album
