Best Of The Impressions

LP (Item 24502) ABC, Mid 60s — Condition: Very Good
Originally: 9.99
Original best of collection issued by ABC at the time when the group was still riding high on their label! The album contains 11 classic tracks – all penned by Curtis Mayfield, with great Chisoul arrangements by Johnny Pate. Cuts include "Too Slow", "I Loved & Lost", "You've Been Cheating", "I've Been Trying", "We're Rolling On", "We're A Winner", and "This Must End". Never gets old!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some surface wear, light edge wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

One By One
ABC, 1965. Near Mint-
Classic 60s Impressions material, with the legendary lineup firmly in place, and the great Johnny Pate handling all arrangements – really giving them that sense of righteous power that pushed their music past a lot of the previous group soul sounds of the Chicago scene – with a ... Charles Wright

Ninety Day Cycle People
ABC, 1974. Very Good+
Wild work by Charles Wright – recorded in the post-103rd Street Rhythm Band years, with a really trippy sound! The album's got a few really messed up numbers – ones that have Charles ranting and grooving with incredible energy, especially on the cuts "90 Day Cycle People" and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Clarence Carter

Real
ABC, 1974. Very Good
Funny that they'd call this one "real", as it's probably the least rootsy of Clarence's albums from the early 70s. Not that that's a problem, though, because McKinley Jackson and Paul Riser handled the arrangements with a style that's very similar to some of Lamont Dozier's work for ABC ... LP, Vinyl record album
ABC, 1962. Very Good+
A classic! What seemed a silly idea at the time was true proof of Ray's genius, and the result was the most successful album of his career – and a bona-fide number one hit that rode the charts for years and years! Ray's voice works perfectly with the material, and thanks to soulful ... LP, Vinyl record album

ABC, Late 60s. Near Mint-
More beautiful soul from one of the best (and most overlooked) groups of the 60's! The Tams sing in a unique raw harmony style that mixes southern and northern influences, and their records (like this one) are filled with great material that was written for the band. Most of these cuts have great ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rufus & Chaka Khan

Street Player
ABC, 1978. Very Good+ Gatefold
Stunning work from Rufus & Chaka Khan – still very much at the height of their powers on this late 70s release – and still doing things at a level that nobody else can touch! The blend of jazz and soul is completely sublime – given a bit of extra help on arrangements by Clare ... LP, Vinyl record album

A late 60s collection of Tams tunes done during their years with ABC, with a number of songs composed by Joe South, who also produced the record, and Ray Whitley who worked with the Tams frequently over the span of their career. Freda Payne

Payne & Pleasure
ABC, 1974. Sealed
Genius work from Freda Payne – a set recorded after her bigger fame years for Invictus/Hot Wax – but a record that's done with an even deeper feel overall! James Brown

Popcorn
King, 1969. Very Good
A tremendous turning point in the career of James Brown – and an album that points the way strongly to the even deeper funk of the 70s! The album's a hard-wailing batch of instrumental tracks played by the legendary James Brown Band of the late 60s – the pre-JBs ensemble that's gone ... LP, Vinyl record album
