This Is Determination Problems (original pressing)

LP (Item 2445) Ear Wax/Wonderland, Late 70s — Condition: Sealed

An obscure little funky group from Flint, Michigan, one with a tight ensemble sound that's very much in the Earth Wind & Fire mode – complete with a really great horn section, plenty of bass-heavy grooves a the bottom, and a relatively spiritual feel that comes through strongly on the best tracks! There's a slight jazzy finish to some of the cuts too, a deeper sound that makes Hunt's Determination stand out strongly from their contemporaries – even some of the better-known groups of the time. And although indie, there's a real polish to the whole record – a well-conceived sound that comes off beautifully from start to finish, and which has always made this one a standout for collectors! Titles include "Loneliness", "Danceland", "Problems", "Number One Lady", "I Got My Nut", and "Where The Funk Comes From".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Sealed!)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Your Good Thing
Capitol, Late 60s. Very Good+
Another one of the really good Lou Rawls albums from the late 60's. David Axelrod produced, and the drums are nice and hard, especially on "I Can't Make It Alone", which he arranged. Other tracks include "Give Me Your Love" (not the Curtis Mayfield song), "When She ... LP, Vinyl record album

I Cried For You
Cadet, Early 60s/Late 60s. Very Good+
Fantastic Johnny "Guitar" Watson album, and one that features him playing no guitar at all! Instead, he plays piano, and with a nice bluesy style that sounds great. He sings mostly standards, but in a fantastic way that twists them inside out, and that gives them all these great soulful ... LP, Vinyl record album

Saturday Night
MCA, 1983. Very Good+
A stone club classic from the early 80s – one of the best mainstream groovers of the post-disco years! Songs In The Key Of Life
Tamla, 1976. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold

A standout classic of the French disco scene of the 70s – and a record that found a perfect way to bridge the gap between spacier grooves and tighter rhythms for the mainstream! T Neck/Columbia, 1977. Very Good+ Gatefold
A funky album – but one that we love best for the mellow tracks!
