This Is Determination Problems (original pressing)

LP (Item 2445) Ear Wax/Wonderland, 1978 — Condition: Sealed
Just Sold Out!

LP, Vinyl record album

❔
An obscure little funky group from Flint, Michigan, one with a tight ensemble sound that's very much in the Earth Wind & Fire mode – complete with a really great horn section, plenty of bass-heavy grooves a the bottom, and a relatively spiritual feel that comes through strongly on the best tracks! There's a slight jazzy finish to some of the cuts too, a deeper sound that makes Hunt's Determination stand out strongly from their contemporaries – even some of the better-known groups of the time. And although indie, there's a real polish to the whole record – a well-conceived sound that comes off beautifully from start to finish, and which has always made this one a standout for collectors! Titles include "Loneliness", "Danceland", "Problems", "Number One Lady", "I Got My Nut", and "Where The Funk Comes From".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Sealed copy.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Enterprise, 1971. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A landmark album that hardly needs any introduction – as it's one of the most famous soundtracks, if not soul records, of the 70s! Warner, 1978. Very Good+ Gatefold

Chairmen Of The Board

In Session
Invictus, 1971. Very Good+ Gatefold
A killer album by the Chairmen of the Board! The record's their second – and although the "In Session" title, photos on the front, and liner notes all make it appear to be a live album, it's actually a studio session, with the same great Holland-Dozier-Holland production as the ... Unity

Unity
United Artists, 1980. Very Good+
Obscure modern soul album on United Artists, with a strong sound that's heading towards an 80s groove, but which also has elements of Luther's work during the late 70s. The group features two male and one female singer – and the overally vocal approach is solos on the verses, and harmony on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Graham Central Station

Release Yourself
Warner, 1974. Very Good+
The second album by Larry Graham and his Graham Central Station outfit – and as slick a bit of LA 70s funk as you'll ever find! Patti Austin

Havana Candy
CTI, 1977. Very Good+ Gatefold
Havana Candy, indeed – as singer Patti Austin's in her sweetest mode of the 70s – stepping off of years of background vocals for others, and really emerging as a great soul star on her own!
