Tell The Truth

LP (Item 24143) Atco, 1970 — Condition: Very Good+
In the years after his death, when Otis Redding had approached near-deity status, Atlantic was digging through their vaults (recently swiped from Stax!) to find whatever they could to put together a record. Fortunately, most of the material they came up with was great – as you'll hear on this release of older stuff, put out by Atco in 1970. Otis is backed by Booker T & the MGs, with the Memphis Horn trio, plus a bit of extra keyboard work by Ike Hayes. Titles include "A Little Time", "Swingin On A String", "Demonstration", "Tell The Truth", "Out Of Sight", and "Wholesale Love".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A key posthumous release from Otis Redding – material recorded in 1967 before his untimely early death, released in 1969 to a very eager audience for work from the late soul singer! Otis Redding

Dock Of The Bay
Volt, 1968. Very Good+
A very important crossover soul album – a huge hit for Otis Redding that was released after his tragic death in December 1967 – but it's also hard to say if it would have had the impact it did had Redding not passed while the LP was still in production. In a way, the record sort of set ... LP, Vinyl record album

Everybody's Talkin'
Atco, 1972. Very Good+
King Curtis' last album of studio work for Atlantic – pulled from a number of sessions recorded in the year before his untimely early death! Dr John

Dr John's Gumbo
Atco, 1972. Near Mint-
A rootsy classic from Dr John – an early 70s set in which he turns his talents to a bunch of older New Orleans soul and blues tracks, but serves them up in a style that still has plenty of his mystic gumbo in place! After the freer-wheeling longform sprawls of his more psychedelic albums, ... LP, Vinyl record album

We Got A Thing
Atco, 1966. Very Good
An obvious follow-up to their big hit "Cool Jerk", but a great album of raw soulful tracks that puts this Detroit group right up there with the best of the 60s up-tempo harmony groups! It must have cost Barrabas plenty to make the heart-shaped manhole on the cover of this album – but given the sound of the grooves, the money was well worth it!
