Gentle Is My Love

LP (Item 23595) Capitol, Late 60s — Condition: Used
Temporarily Out Of Stock

LP, Vinyl record album

A bit lusher, and a bit more pop-vocal oriented than some of Nancy's other Capitol albums – this one has arrangements by Sid Feller, and a rich string-laden sound that's nicely juxtaposed against Nancy's soulful vocals. Titles include "Gentle Is My Love", "When He Makes Music", "Funnier Than Funny", "If Love Is Good To Me", and "More".  © 1996-2018, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sound Of Nancy Wilson
Capitol, 1968. Very Good+
The sound of Nancy Wilson is mighty darn groovy here – a wonderful blend of upbeat late 60s modes, and some of the more compressed class of her earlier years! Arrangements are by Jimmy Jones, who finds just the right balance of jazz and soul to work perfectly with Wilson – so that when ... LP, Vinyl record album
Today, My Way
Capitol, Late 60s. Very Good+
Nancy Wilson takes on the sound of today – circa 1965 – singing her versions of songs by a host of other female singers of the time, and blowing away most of them in the process! Wilson is the consummate portrait of soul and class throughout – working well well-balanced ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tender Loving Care has Nancy singing with arranger Billy May – who comes across here with a bit more sensitivity than usual for his Capitol work, especially given the 60s time of the recording! Sometimes, May is using full strings as a broad pillow of sound for Nancy's vocals – but ... LP, Vinyl record album
Just For Now
Capitol, Mid 60s. Near Mint-
Nancy Wilson sings just for now – but in that way that could make any of her late 60s Capitol sessions a timeless classic – a record that has a lot more staying power than you'd guess from the title! Wilson's a genius at this point in her career – trained in jazz, with phrasing ... LP, Vinyl record album

Broadway material – but given the Nancy Wilson twist – and sung in a mode that's a lot more soulful than other records of its type! Nancy's at her strong early Capitol best here – working with arranger Sid Feller in a set of tunes that get some nice syncopation and jazzy ... LP, Vinyl record album
Touch Of Today
Capitol, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Nancy's in groovy late 60s pop territory here – with swinging arrangements by Oliver Nelson, and some more mellow backings by Sid Feller. The set's not Nancy's most original album – but it's also one of the things she does best: taking songs made famous by others, and giving them a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Hurt So Bad
Capitol, Late 60s. Near Mint-
A great set that continues the groovy late 60s sound of Nancy Wilson at Capitol Records – that unique blend of jazz and soul that seemed to inspire a whole host of imitations at the time! Lush Life
Capitol, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Genius work from Nancy Wilson – the kind of Capitol Records gem that was partly jazz, partly soul, and very much in that special territory that made Wilson one of the most mature, sophisticated singers of the 60s! The record's got Nancy working through some material with bluer currents, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Nancy – Naturally
Capitol, Late 60s. Very Good+
A great one from Nancy Wilson – a set that has the singer working with full arrangements from Billy May, who's got this surprisingly subtle approach at times that works really well with the soulful currents in Nancy's vocals! The approach is almost more like Oliver Nelson, especially with ... LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol, 1959. Very Good-
Sinatra at his lonely best – as emphasized by the cover image, which has him sitting alone at a bar, looking sadly into his drink. The album's got backings by Gordon Jenkins, a bit more flowery than some of Nelson Riddle's, but in that sad dreamy mode that Sinatra worked with on the Wee ... LP, Vinyl record album
