In Full Bloom

LP (Item 23567) Whitfield, 1977 — Condition: Very Good+
Gatefold
A big one for Norman Whitfield – who found in Rose Royce what he'd been lacking for years – a hit group ready to handle a number of styles, all well, and all with an adventurous style that would break them past the legions of lackluster funky soul groups of the late 70s. The record blends the band's more famous funky styles with smoother jazzy soul that's almost in a Minnie Riperton mode – and which is made even more so by the sweet lead vocals of Rose Norwalt. She's heard to best effect on the cuts "Wishing On A Star" and "Ooh Boy" – and other funkier numbers include "Do Your Dance", "Funk Factory", and "It Makes You Feel Like Dancing", which are all filled with great keyboards and nice spacey grooves.  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(In the rose stem cover, with some light edge & ring wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Walter Jackson

Good To See You
Chi Sound/United Artists, 1978. Very Good+
Sophisticated soul from the great Walter Jackson – one of the best voices ever to come out of the Chicago soul scene, and a wonderful interpreter of just about any material! Jerry Butler & Brenda Lee Eager

Love We Have
Mercury, 1973. Near Mint- Gatefold
Duets between Jerry Butler and Brenda Lee Eager – done as serious, adult oriented soul tracks, one side of the album in an optimistic "The Love We Have" setting, the other in a sadder "The Love We Had" setting – both of them handled in a mode that's far far different ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jean Carne

Closer Than Close
Mirage/Omni, 1986. Very Good+
Quite a different sound than Jean's Philly International recordings – although certainly a logical extension – and it's a sweeter than sweet set from the mid 80s that in turns both celebrates and transcends the production style of the era! Overall, Closer Than Close is a smooth batch ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atlantic, 1979. Near Mint-
The group's past the true glory of their early Philly days, but they are still working here with Thom Bell – who's keeping up the strident groove approach that always worked well with the group's harmonies. Includes the tracks "One Man Wonderful Band", "Once You Fall In ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ben E King

I Had A Love
Atlantic, 1976. Very Good+
A great one from Ben E King's "Supernatural" comeback years in the mid 70s – recorded at Sigma Sound with a really stellar approach on both the groovers and the mellow tunes! Ben's really letting his vocals open up on the set – going for that richness that was sometimes held ... LP, Vinyl record album

Temptations

To Be Continued
Motown, 1986. Near Mint-
The Temptations are looking a bit cheesy on the cover here, but they still sound great – and the album's great proof that the group were one of the few from their generation who could always keep things up over the years! The production and instrumentation are definitely on the modern side, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Regina Belle

All By Myself
Columbia, 1987. Very Good+
A sweet debut from soul singer Regina Belle – a nice dose of class and sophistication in the world of mid 80s R&B! Regina's got a well-developed style right from the start – the kind of poise that you might hear from someone like Phyllis Hyman, especially on the mellower cuts ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sonny Stitt

Now!
Impulse, 1963. Near Mint- Gatefold
A tight swinger from Sonny Stitt – one of the standout 60s dates he recorded for the Impulse label, a place where he seemed to get even more care and focus in the studio! The record's got all the soulful swing of Stitt's classics for Roost, but also hits a slightly more lyrical groove at ... LP, Vinyl record album
