Manu Carue – Uma Aventura Holistica

LP (Item 23316) Philips (Brazil), 1988 — Condition: Very Good+
Also available
Wagner Tiso — Manu Carue – Uma Aventura Holistica ... CD 6.99
A strange mixture of styles for this enigmatic Brazilian keyboardist – and a record that has a bit of rock, a bit of classical, and an approach that you certainly wouldn't find from an American artist recording at the same time! Like a lot of Tiso's later work, this one has some moments that are great, and a number of others that aren't. The main thing here to get past is the 80s keyboards, which have a very heavy vocoder and synclavier kind of sound. Titles include "Alegria", "Fantasia Holistica", "Missa Do Brasil", "Manu Carue", and "Memoria".  © 1996-2022, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the original inner sleeve, too. Cover has light wear and light waviness from moisture.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Quarteto Em Cy

Resistindo Ao Vivo
Philips (Brazil), 1977. Near Mint-
Wonderful stuff from the lovely Quarteto Em Cy – but aren't they always wonderful? The record's got a spare stripped-down instrumental style, and was recorded live with bossa backing – so that the girls' voices are right out front, free and clear, doing the main work of the songs. The ... LP, Vinyl record album

Transversal Do Tempo
Philips (Brazil), 1978. Near Mint-
Classic live set from 1978, featuring Elis at the height of her interpretive powers, performing with backing by Cesar Mariano and his fusiony CIA group. Gal Costa

Fantasia
Philips (Brazil), 1981. Near Mint-
Gal's in the prime of her sexy diva style here – singing in a sweet warm style with smooth jazzy arrangements that bring out a whole new side of her career. Vinicius De Moraes & Toquinho

Vinicius/Toquinho
Philips (Brazil), 1975. Very Good+ Gatefold
One of the more lively, and more beautiful Vinicius albums from the 70s! Unlike a lot of others, which have spare production – this one has some wonderful arrangements, in a manner that's similar to some of Jobim's from the same time, but with occasional touches of samba. The production is ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nara Leao recorded some incredible albums at the end of the 60s in Brazil – and she returned to greatness in the 80s with records like this – done with a different sound that really marked a strong second chapter in the singer's career! Philips (Mexico), Early 70s. Very Good
Nice work from the immediate post-EMI/Odeon years of Wilson Simonal – from a time when he was still very groovy, and maybe even more soulful than before! Features songs penned by Marcos Valle, Gilberto Gil, and Tom E Dito! LP, Vinyl record album
Philips (Brazil), 1976. Near Mint-
An interesting side project from Luiz Eca – an artist who most folks know as the pianist for the Tamba Trio! Sergio Mendes

Sergio Mendes (1983)
A&M, 1983. Near Mint-
Upbeat soul from Sergio Mendes – but a record that's still got a Brazilian heart beating underneath! The sound of the set is very much in the best mainstream soul modes of the time – never too electric overall, but put together with a nicely warm groove that continues the legacy of ...
