❔

Another one of those overstuffed Motown 70s Anthologies – this time featuring 3LPs worth of Temptations classics, with tracks recorded between 1964 and 1972. The album follows the group right up to their move to ABC, and includes classics like "Cloud Nine", "Just My Imagination", "Papa Was A Rolling Stone", "Ain't Too Proud To Beg", "My Girl", and lots of other great lesser-known material!  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Missing booklet. Cover has moderate wear and aging with a hype sticker.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Temptations

Bare Back
Atlantic, 1978. Very Good+
The Temptations on Atlantic Records – sounding different than their Motown years, and still pretty darn great! The group's got some wonderful help here from the team of Brian and Eddie Holland – still very much in fine fine form, and coming up with some backings that have a warm modern ... Willie Hutch

Fully Exposed
Motown, 1973. Near Mint-
Super-dope work from Willie – a great selection of laidback and electric grooves, done here with plenty of great work on hollow-body electric guitar, which adds a nice raspiness to the instrumentation, and creates the same sort of vibe you'd hear on Willie's best soundtrack work. The record's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Diana Ross

Diana Ross (1970)
Motown, 1970. Very Good
A landmark record for Diana – her first solo effort after leaving the Supremes, and a well-conceived batch of tracks produced by Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson! The album's got a warm, mature approach that really separates the work from Diana's earlier girl group past – as Ashford ... LP, Vinyl record album
Motown, 1979. Sealed 4 x 12" Box Set
A great little package of clubby soul from Motown – four 12" singles in a box! Though the label wasn't particularly known as a home to disco, they weren't allergic to it either, and fielded their share of nice club friendly tracks throughout the late 70s, and even on through the 80s, ... Motown, 1967. Near Mint-
The Four Tops weren't the first of the Motown groups to get the broadway treatment, but they do a pretty nice job with it! Thanks to some swinging help from producer Frank Wilson, the quartet manage to still shine even though they're shackled with a set of tunes from over-blown broadway shows of ... Mary Wells

Mary Wells On Stage
Motown, 1964. Good
An incredible record from Mary Wells – one that really captures the rawness of her vocal range, in a setting that's about as "live" as you could get for a soul recording of the time! Berry Gordy put this one together with a brilliant sense of space and place – allowing for a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tear To A Smile
Polydor, 1975. Near Mint-
One of the best early soul albums by Roy Ayers! Roy's working here with Dee Dee Bridgewater, Edwin Birdsong, William Allen, Harry Whitaker, and other hip players – a perfect crew to forge Roy's unique blend of jazz and soul. This is perhaps the first record to really have Roy stretching out ... LP, Vinyl record album
Casablanca, 1978. Very Good+
The pleasure principle is in full effect here – a really special sort of feeling that strongly shows off the female side of the Parliament/Funkadelic mothership!
