You Ain't Heard Nothin' Yet

LP (Item 23039) Brunswick, Early 60s — Condition: Very Good+
You certainly ain't heard nothin, not until you hear this very strangely conceived set of Jackie doing a tribute to Al Jolson! We could condemn this, but we actually find it pretty fascinating, as it confirms the strange black following that Jolson had, even though you would've expected him to only offend that audience. As a soul album, this maybe isn't the tip top of Wilson's catalog – but it's still a pretty unusual record, with titles that include "My Yiddishe Momme", "Sonny Boy", "Toot, Toot, Tootsie Goodbye", and "Swanee".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Brunswick, 1960s. Very Good+
A tasty set of Jackie's more famous singles for Brunswick – and a lot more hard hitting than some of his other full LPs for the label at the time! Titles include "Lonely Teardrops", "Baby Workout", "Higher & Higher", "Whispers (Gettin' Louder)", ... LP, Vinyl record album
Brunswick, Mid 60s. Very Good
An obscure session for Big Maybelle, but a great one too – a record that has her moving past the melancholy blues of her earlier work, into a lively gospel-based mode that's surprisingly great for her voice! The sound is quite upbeat and joyous – in a style that really has Maybelle's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jackie Wilson with Count Basie

Manufacturers Of Soul
Brunswick, 1968. Very Good+
A really wonderful collaboration between two very unlikely partners – and a great album that really stands out as some of the best work from both artists in the 60s! First Time Around

LP...$4.99 14.99
A lost set of female soul tracks – recorded in the waning years of the Brunswick label, when they were really experimenting with some great obscure groups, most of whom got lost in the tax shuffles of the label's demise! Odyssey 5 hail from North Carolina, and they've got an ensemble female ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gil Scott-Heron

Reflections
Arista, 1981. Very Good
A great little album that's often overshadowed by its hit – the 15 minute "B-Movie", which was sort of an overly-wrought protest piece about how the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980 was going to turn America into a bad b-movie. Not that that track's bad – although its ... LP, Vinyl record album

House Of Love
Warner, 1978. Very Good+
A perfect pairing of Candi Staton and producer Dave Crawford – that key southern soul talent who helped Candi and a few select others really step into the American soul mainstream at the end of the 70s! Thriller
Epic, 1982. Very Good Gatefold
Arguably the last true moment of genius in Michael Jackson's career – a record that sold a bazillion copies around the world – and for plenty good reason! Prince

Purple Rain
Warner, 1984. Near Mint-
One of the greatest crossover albums of the 80s – and the record that catapulted Prince very firmly into the mainstream! There's a tightness here that surpasses even that of Prince's early classics for Warner Brothers – an unabashed love of a pop hook that makes for some incredibly ... LP, Vinyl record album
Pickwick/ABC, 1960s. Sealed
A nice 70s collection of classic 60s ABC work by the early Impressions – not necessarily the group's biggest hits, but a nice batch of work nonetheless! Commodores

Heroes
Motown, 1980. Sealed Gatefold
The Commodores tenth album – as you might guess from the big X on the cover – and a set that features some of the last great moments of Lionel Richie with the group! Saturday Night Fever
RSO, 1977. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
Yes, it was a mega-hit – and yes, it was one of those records that everyone who lived through the 70s seemed to own at one time – but after all these decades, you can't deny the power of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack – especially for the way that it mixed club soul classics ... Cold Blood

Sisyphus
San Francisco, 1970. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of the best albums ever recorded by this legendary Bay Area funk combo – a key part of that city's crossover scene, and a group who always deserves a second listen!
