Soul Christmas (Atco)

LP (Item 23013) Atco, 1968 — Condition: Very Good+
Hey, it's never too early to start shopping for Christmas – especially when it's for yourself! And what better to buy than this great compilation from Atlantic, filled with soulful Christmas numbers from some of their best southern soul affiliates – including many classic Stax artists! The record's one of the best soul Christmas albums you could ever buy, and it's got many tasty numbers like "Presents For Christmas" by Solomon Burke, "Every Day Will Be Like A Holiday" by William Bell, "Jingle Bells" by Booker T & The MGs, "Merry Christmas Baby" by Otis Redding, "Gee Whiz, It's Christmas" by Carla Thomas, "Back Door Santa" by Clarence Carter, and "I'll Make Every Day Christmas" by Joe Tex.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Curtis Mayfield & Linda Clifford

Right Combination
Curtom/RSO, 1980. Near Mint-
An album of duets that Curtis cut with rising disco star Linda Clifford – who by 1980 may well have been earning more money for Curtom than Curtis! The album's about half disco tracks, half soul duets in a Chicago mode – and arrangements are by Gil Askey and Norman Harris. Tracks ... LP, Vinyl record album

Street Corner Symphony

Harmony Grits
Bang, 1975. Near Mint-
Funky uptempo vocal group soul – in that "doo wop for the clubs" kind of style that a some east coast acts were using at the time. The record was produced by Michael Zager, and it's sometimes got a bit too much focus on the grooves to showcase the harmonies properly – but ... LP, Vinyl record album

Liquid Liquid

Liquid Liquid EP
99 Records, Early 80s. Near Mint-
A groundbreaking little record – and one that's hardly ever been matched again! Liquid Liquid sprang onto the scene with this amazing debut EP for 99 Records – a set that's got a wicked blend of funky drums, post-punk darkness, and this cool criss-crossing of modes that perfectly sums ... Columbia, Late 60s. Very Good+
Freddie sings it nice and easy with his deep round baritone, amidst polished arrangements by Garry Sherman, and nice production by Clyde Otis. The record's indicative of some of the excellent uptown soul that Columbia was releasing during the late 60s, with kind of a classy jazzy touch that makes ... LP, Vinyl record album
Kent (UK), 1960s. Near Mint-
An early treasure from a great tradition in soul music – one of the first few compilations from Ace/Kent Records – issued way back in the early 80s, and still a treasure trove of great 60s soul after all these years! As you'd guess from the title, the tracks here are all upbeat and ... LP, Vinyl record album
