Right Now

LP (Item 22991) Atlantic, 1962 — Condition: Very Good+

Another great groover from Herbie's Latin days! The band has a very unusual modal sound, with Herbie's flute next to vibes by Hagood Hardy, guitar by Billy Bean, and percussion by Willie Bobo & Patato Valdes. Includes a nice version of "O Barquino", plus the cuts "Cool Heat", "Free For All", "Meditation", and "Challil".  © 1996-2022, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mono red and purple label pressing. Cover has a small sticker spot.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Herbie Mann

Discotheque
Atlantic, 1975. Near Mint-
Herbie Mann hits the discos – but given the flute player's roots in jazz, the set's more of an electric funk outing overall! Herbie's working here with his Family of Mann group – that cool combo that features lots of work on keyboards from Pat Rebillot, who also handled the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Herbie Mann

Latin Fever
Atlantic, 1964. Near Mint-
Herbie Mann's got Latin fever – and it makes for one heck of a great 60s album! The vibe here is more bossa nova than the New York Latin of the time – but that's OK with us, because Mann's flute is perfect in the setting – and really sparkles here on the album's tracks that were ... Embryo, 1970. Near Mint- Gatefold
Herbie Man gets nitty and gritty at the Muscle Shoals Studios – bringing his funky flute to the southern powerhouse of sound, and hitting some of his most soulful grooves of the time! Atlantic, 1962. Very Good+
A great album of bossa groovers, recorded by Herbie in the early days of the US bossa boom – and with a sound that's right on the money! The backing's very lively, and the tracks have a tight bossa sound that's quite authentic. Herbie's flute is livelier than usual, and on a set like this, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jack McDuff

Do It Now!
Atlantic, 1967. Near Mint-
Tight funky instrumentals from Brother Jack McDuff – an Atlantic groover that's probably closer to his late 60s gems for Cadet Records than it is his earlier work for Prestige! The solos are shorter, but they're packed nicely around the rhythms – played by a combo that features a young ... LP, Vinyl record album

The MJQ always manage to sound especially great when working on music for film – and this album's a great illustration of that fact! Charles Lloyd

Soundtrack
Atlantic, 1968. Near Mint- Gatefold
A killer from the Charles Lloyd group of the late 60s – a set that still stretches out with all the spiritual energy of Lloyd's other Atlantic albums, yet also seems to have a bit more of a groove, too! The setting is live, and the tracks are nice and long – allowing ample room for ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gary Burton

Alone At Last
Atlantic, 1971. Near Mint-
A mixed bag of tracks from Gary – but a really nice record overall, one that has him stretching out in the Atlantic years! 3 of the album's tracks were recorded live in Montreux, the others were recorded back in New York – and Gary plays a variety of instruments in addition to vibes, ... Duke Ellington

Great Paris Concert
Atlantic, 1963. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Did Ellington ever record in concert and it not be great? This wonderful double-length set from the 60s is key proof of his genius in an unfettered live setting – recorded in Paris in 1963 with plenty of dark edges! The tracks are short overall, but Duke's really at the head of the group on ... LP, Vinyl record album
