Lonesome Gal

LP (Item 22982) RCA, 1956 — Condition: Very Good-

Moody set of vocals recorded by this obscure Chicago singer. Lurlean got her start at the classy south side Club DeLisa, home to Sun Ra, and a host of other Chicago talents – but by the time of this recording, she'd moved downtown, and had become a classy smoky voiced singer with a good talent for more mature material. This hard to find early session features backing by Al Nevins, and arrangements by Quincy Jones and Marion Evans. Tracks include "Brief Encounter", "On Green Dolphin Street", "Alone Together", and "A Stranger In Town".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mono pressing with deep groove. Cover has some wear, aging, and a Meet The Girls sticker.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Kitty Kallen

My Coloring Book
RCA, 1962. Near Mint-
Key work from Kitty Kallen's comeback period at the start of the 60s – work that showcases her wonderfully fragile way of putting over a ballad – a sad-tinged sound that's different from most other singers! There's a slight hint of country roots in Kitty's voice at times, but the style ... LP, Vinyl record album

RCA, 1963. Very Good
A killer album that's one of Joe's best! Unlike some of his other albums as a vocalist, in which the arrangements are a bit too cluttered to swing, this nice relaxed live set has Joe hitting a very soulful groove, and stepping out nicely on cuts like "Gravy Waltz", "Come Back ... Femme Fatale
Crown, Mid 50s. Very Good-
