Celia Cruz and Johnny Pacheco join forces with vocalist Justo Betancourt and pianist Papo Lucca – the latter of whom was making plenty big waves in music with Sonora Poncena at the time! Pacheco's the leader of the group on flute and percussion, but Lucca's piano has plenty of force in the set too – and the instrumentation also features some rootsier percussion and tres, which helps it avoid the too-slick sound you might expect. Celia and Justo sing, and titles include "Ahora Si", "Reina Rumba", "Se Que Tu", "Besito De Coco", and "Yerbero Moderno". (Cover has splitting on the bottom seam.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Guantanamera
Surrey, Late 60s. Very Good+
Despite the fact that this one was cut for the knock-off Surrey label, the album's actually one of the best that the Afro Blues ensemble ever recorded! The whole thing's got a lively soul jazz groove, with plenty of flute and sax solos, nice vibes, and a good strong piano-driven Latiny groove. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Classic album of modern "revival" charangas, played by this youthful 70's group, and with arrangements by Mike Garcia and Eddie Drennon, who also produced the record. Includes the nice groover "Chica Boom", plus the cuts "Musica Y Ambiente", "Quiero Mas", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Big Hits By Prado
RCA, 1960. Very Good
They certainly got the title right on this one – as the album's overflowing with earlier hits by Perez Prado, re-recorded here for the hi-fi generation, with really swinging RCA sound!
