Jimmy Smith — Groovin' At Smalls' Paradise Vol 1 ... CD 9.99
Jimmy Smith live was a killer – especially in the early days, when this one was recorded! Back in the late 50s, when Jimmy was shocking the world with his fantastically creative approach to the organ, Blue Note cut some of the first strong-selling live albums by following Jimmy to the clubs – where he would really let loose with some incredible work on the Hammond B3. The albums recorded that time shine far brighter than Jimmy's studio work – as Smith really opens up on nice long tracks, working with his trio that features Eddie McFadden on guitar and Donald Bailey on drums. Titles on this first volume include "After Hours", "My Funny Valentine", "Slightly Monkish", and "Laura".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(63rd street deep groove mono pressing, with RVG etch and ear! Vinyl is nice and clean, but has a click for a few minutes on side two. Front cover looks great – back cover has some light notes in pen.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Hank Mobley

Soul Station
Blue Note, 1960. Near Mint-
One of the key classics from the hardbop years of Blue Note – the kind of album that really set the label apart from the rest at the time! One of the few American albums by Jutta Hipp – a key figure in the German jazz scene of the postwar years, recording here at the Hickory House in New York! Three Sounds

Moods
Blue Note, 1960. Very Good
"Moods" is right – as the album's got a wonderfully dark undercurrent, one that makes it one of the most captivating early Three Sounds albums for Blue Note! Chick Corea

Song Of Singing
Blue Note, 1970. Near Mint-
