❔
A great one by Elis, and a late-60s effort that seems to mix her bossa leanings with a slight nod to some of the Tropicalia changes that were going on around her! There's lots of cool Brazilian pop instrumentation, jazzy bossa grooves, and weirdly-arranged organs and guitars, plus some wild arrangements that have a nice off-kilter sound. The set includes a great version of Gilberto Gil's "Viramundo", plus a classic reading of "Upa Neguinho", the groover "Corrida De Jangada", "Samba do Perdao", "Tributo A Tom Jobim", and "De Onde Vens".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original pressing, with inner sleeve. Cover is missing the plastic outer sleeve and has a spot of sticker residue, light wear, and aging. Inner sleeve is a bit aged and as wrinkled corners.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

One of the last records that Elis recorded for Polygram, and a great batch of tracks that has a lot more of a jazzy feel than some of her other albums from the time! One of the most diverse albums that Elis Regina cut during the 70s – a set that seems to leap from style to style with each new track, and really build from some of the more staid and jazz-based styles of her other records! Well, it's not the 60s anymore – but this is still a wonderful album that reunites Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil in the spirit of their Tropicalia years – done in a style that shows that creative invention was still alive in MPB during the 90s!
