Wings

LP (Item 22634) A&M, 1971 — Condition: Near Mint-
Gatefold
French arranger/composer Michel Colombier was responsible for some incredibly beautiful and nicely funky baroque easy recordings during the late 60s. This album has him working in America, bringing his unusual style to the A&M studios, and working with Herb Albert to realize a new level of pop that stretched beyond the usual chart styles of A&M in the 60s. About the half the tracks are instrumentals, and the rest are vocals, with lyrics by Paul Williams – and performances by Lani Hall, Herb Albert, and Bill Medley. The record includes the nice funky break track "Pourquoi Pas?", plus other mellower moments like "Emmanuel", "All In All", "Thalassa", and "Earth".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(In the die-cut gatefold cover, with bumped corners, fading at the top and right edge, and some frays at the right side of the window.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Burt Bacharach

Burt Bacharach (1971)
A&M, 1971. Near Mint- Gatefold
Insanely wonderful work by Bacharach – in a way that we can hardly begin to describe (but we'll certainly try!) By the time this one was recorded – 1971 – Burt's reputation as a songwriter and arranger were so firmly established that he had an incredible amount of freedom in the ... LP, Vinyl record album
RCA, 1962. Near Mint-
A crazy hammond organ workout on a variety of standards and a few originals. This is smoking stuff that has a jazzy swinging feel, but is marked with the virtuosity implied by "13 fingers". Sort of like stuff by the John Buzon Trio. Also includes "Bach Goes Berserk", "Sir ... LP, Vinyl record album

Les Baxter

Space Escapade
Capitol, 1958. Very Good
One of the rarest albums by Les Baxter – and one of the best! Pretty darn nice later work from Martin Denny – a great batch of sexy tracks with stunning backings, and a really nice late 60s mellow piano groove! Enoch Light

Brass Menagerie 1974
Project 3, 1974. Very Good+
Forget how much you don't like Enoch Light's snoozy early albums for Command, these Brass Menagerie LPs are very nice, very groovy, and have a good sound that's much livelier than Enoch's other LPs. This one includes goofy covers of "Shaft" and "Season Of The Witch", plus " ... LP, Vinyl record album

Martin Denny

Another Taste Of Honey
Liberty, 1963. Very Good+
A sweet follow up to Martin Denny's Taste Of Honey album – one that's got a great blend of piano, vibes, and percussion – all used in a way that's almost more jazz-like than some of Denny's earlier work! The formula works great to transform a host of 50s and 60s tunes – and ... LP, Vinyl record album

A fab set of James Bond tunes – performed by Brit easy maestro Roland Shaw, in a style that's arguably groovier than the original soundtracks themselves! LP, Vinyl record album
Candid, 1960. Near Mint-
One of the most righteous albums that Max Roach ever cut – and a monumental jazz release from the heart of the Civil Rights era! As you can guess from the cover and title, there's a very political bent to the record – served up in righteous lyrics penned by Oscar Brand Jr, and sung by ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

On The Corner
Columbia, 1972. Very Good+ Gatefold
A sublime bit of Miles Davis electric funk – one of the best-remembered electric sets from the 70s, and for good reason too! The tracks are long, the jams are hard, and the whole thing has a lot more funk than some of the noise you'd get on other Miles albums of the time – thanks to ... LP, Vinyl record album
