Stevie Wonder — Songs In The Key Of Life ... CD 6.99

A sweet little double LP – one that had some folks saying that Stevie should have stayed away from the "2LP syndrome", but for us a real treasure with lots of hidden gems. Besides the hits "Isn't She Lovely" and "Sir Duke", which were more than enough to carry the set in the record shops, the record's got lots of other nice cuts, including many that have that complicated jazzy feel of Stevie's work on the Inner Visions album. Titles include "Ngiculela – Esa Una Historia", "Ordinary Pain", "Black Man", "Village Ghetto Land", and "Love's In Need Of Love Today".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes booklet, but missing the 45. Cover has light wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Tamla, 1979. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
Very high concept work from Stevie Wonder! The record is, in fact, about the "secret life of plants" – partially used as a soundtrack for a film of the same name, but also acting as kind of a storybook in itself! Stevie's exploring a wide range of plant life and plant themes on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stevie Wonder

I Was Made To Love Her
Motown, 1967. Very Good-
Excellent work from Stevie Wonder – and a record that really has him emerging strongly as an adult soul singer! The set's got a joyous power that's undeniable – a sense of pride and place that really points the way at the Stevie of the 70s, and which has Wonder stretching out ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stevie Wonder

Hotter Than July
Tamla, 1980. Near Mint- Gatefold
A bit smoother than early days, but still very nice and soulful – and did we expect any less from Stevie? The record's got a nicely flanged-out soul groove – with a style that kind of expands on the vocal and keyboard production of the early 70s, taking the groove towards a sound that ... Stevie Wonder

Talking Book
Tamla, 1972. Very Good Gatefold
One of the classics, and an album that's filled with a sense of majesty and power that will knock you dead – despite the kind of silly cover of Stevie sitting on a hill, playing in the dirt! By this point, Stevie knows he's on top of the world as well he should – and he's honing the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Tamla, 1963. Near Mint-
An amazing early record from Stevie Wonder – the kind of set that shows what raw power and starmanship he had even at a wee wee age! The set was recorded live, in a style that lets Stevie really open up on the full range of his talents – including harmonica, bongos, and drums – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stevie Wonder

Eivets Rednow – Alfie
Motown, 1968. Very Good+
A late 60s all-instrumental set from Stevie Wonder – and a record that shows a real change from his style in the earlier part of the decade – a much more mature move forward, and one that hints at the power of his arrangements in the 70s! As you might guess from the "Alfie" ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miracles

Renaissance
Tamla, 1973. Very Good Gatefold
An incredible album from The Miracles – truly the Renaissance that's promised in the title, and proof that they could do amazing things away from Smokey! Of course, they've got a heck of a lot of great help on this set – from some of Motown's best, like Willie Hutch, Fonce Mizell, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Tamla, 1970s. Sealed
Great cuts from the second decade of Marvin Gaye's career at Motown – really magic numbers pulled from that 70s period when he was really taking off with his music! There's a righteous undercurrent here that goes way beyond the simple soul of the 60s – and the set offers a great cross-s ... LP, Vinyl record album

Smokey Robinson & The Miracles

Away We A Go Go
Tamla, 1966. Very Good+
A key set in the second chapter of Smokey Robinson & The Miracles – that time when the group moved from the mellow ballads that were their first early strength, into some dancefloor stormers that easily made them one of the most favored Motown acts of the time! Smokey definitely takes ... LP, Vinyl record album
