Power Of Love

LP (Item 22032) Mercury, 1973 — Condition: Very Good+

An easy album to overlook, but not without some nice moments! Johnny Bristol produced the record, and he gives it a nice sweet 70s soul groove, similar to what he was using in his own work from the time. And typical of Jerry's albums from the early 70s, there's lots of nice original material, including stuff by Terry Callier, Johnny Bristol, Billy Butler, and Jerry himself. Includes "What Do You Do On A Sunday Afternoon?", one of our secret faves, plus "Memories Don't Leave Like People Do", "Whatever Goes Around", "Whatever's Fair", and "Too Many Danger Signs".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a split spine and bottom seam, a cutout hole, and light surface wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A great little concept album – and one that really shows the continuing sophistication and growth of Jerry Butler's music in the 70s! Mercury, 1968. Very Good
Amazing soul from one of the greats of the 60s! This album was one of the first that Jerry cut for Mercury – where he'd begun working with the young team of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff to completely rework the earlier sound he'd forged at Vee Jay Records. The album's still got Jerry singing ... LP, Vinyl record album

I Got Love
Mercury, Late 60s. Very Good
Great early work from Melba Moore – recorded at a time when she was winning big accolades for her work on stage as a parody of Diana Ross in Hair – but stepping out here as a hell of a great soul singer on her own! The tunes have a groove that's a bit more complicated than the usual ... LP, Vinyl record album

MCA, 1973. Near Mint-
Average White Band are most clearly associated with Atlantic Records during the 70s – and that label's genius move to record white soul acts for the crossover market – but this first album was recorded for MCA, and very much in the same vein as their later work.
