2 sets of classic live soul jazz material from the group that invented the genre! Cannonball's caught live in 2 settings, one per disc – live at the Jazz Workshop in 1959, with Bobby Timmons, Sam Jones, and brother Nat; and again at the Village Vanguard in 1962, again with brother Nat and Sam Jones, plus Yusef Lateef, and Joe Zawinul. Titles include "This Here", "You Got It", "High Fly", "Scotch & Water", "Dizzy's Business", "Gemini", and "Planet Earth". Classic material – and even though this 2LP set brings together 2 older albums, it's got some nice notes, and both of those records are kind of tough to find! (Cover has light wear and a promo stamp.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Somethin' Else
Blue Note, 1958. Fair
A landmark album – even if it was the only session that Cannonball Adderley ever cut for Blue Note! The album was recorded at a time when Adderley was working with Miles Davis – and as such, the session features a group that includes Miles, blowing in a cool tone that's a perfect ... Bossa Nova
Vee Jay, Early 60s. Very Good-
Very nice, very tight little bossa nova set by Eddie Harris from his early days at Vee Jay! The groove is very open, and Eddie's still at the stage where he can really cut the stuff. His solos ring out hard and cold above some great Lalo Schifrin arrangements, and Lalo also plays piano on the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Young Ideas
Riverside, 1961. Very Good
One of the most fantastic (and most obscure) groups to come out of the East Coast in the early 60's. An amazing mix of modernist playing with a soul jazz sensibility. Featuring a very young (18) Andrew White on alto, playing with a tremendous amount of fire, and the great Walter Booker on bass. ... LP, Vinyl record album
