If I Ruled The World – Songs For The Jet Set

LP (Item 21628) Columbia, Mid 60s — Condition: Sealed
One of Tony Bennett's most fantastic albums from the 60s, and a record that features some nice jazzy arrangements that push past the usual heavy studio ones. The album includes a great reading of "Samba Do Aviao" with backing by Carlos Lyra, Helcio Milito, and Al Cohn – plus "Fly Me To The Moon" and "How Insensitive", which also feature Cohn on solos. Other tracks include "Love Scene", "Right To Love", "Watch What Happens", and "Two By Two".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(360 Sound stereo pressing with black text, still sealed in the inner bag! Cover has minimal wear and aging.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Columbia, Late 50s/1960s. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A great collection of some of the more jazz-based work of singer Tony Bennett – one that features a huge amount of all-star musicians – including Al Cohn and Stan Getz on tenors, Count Basie and Herbie Hancock on pianos, Nat Adderley on cornet, Chico Hamilton and Art Blakey on drums, ... A later repackaging of the excellent Flying High album – easily the group's best album by far, and unfortunately, too often the toughest one to find! Frankie
Columbia, 1940s. Very Good
Frank Sinatra's way more than just the teen idol you'd expect from the cover and title – and instead works here as a fully-formed singer who'd go on to forever change the role of adult male vocals in American music! The work is all from Sinatra's early years on Columbia – arranged by ... LP, Vinyl record album

A killer album by Jimmy – and certainly one of his best later records! The album includes the amazing track "Russian Lullaby", done in a totally swinging jazz version with Ray Bryant, Buddy Tate, and Sir Charles Thompson on organ. The track's incredible, and still sends shivers ... LP, Vinyl record album

The album that really put Sarah Vaughan on the map – a killer set that really showed how sultry jazz vocals could sound in the postwar years – never overtone, nor torchy-cliched – but right on the money, with a sense of grace and poise that few others can match – even after ... An overlooked gem from Carmen – one of her few albums for Columbia from the 60s, and a wonderfully swinging small group session that's got a much more relaxed feel than some of her earlier sets!
