Nobody Knows/Bring It Up

7-inch (Item 21565) King, 1967 — Condition: Very Good+
Out Of Stock

7-inch, Vinyl record

✈
Nice one by JB! "Nobody Knows" is a bit standard soul, but "Bring It Up" is a nice groover with a different sound, and features a rolling conga groove, with James shouting "Bring It Up" over the top!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Blue label pressing.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

King, Late 60s. Good
An undisputed groover! The track's a killer uptempo one from James' later years on King – and it's got this amazing beat that snaps along at a full deep stride. Very nice stuff, and the kind of tight grooving that would show up later in his work with the JBs – done here earlier, with ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
King, 1966. Very Good+
A great deep soul tune from James! The track's a holiday number – and the sweet little baby boy is ol' JC himself – but with James singing the vocals, the whole thing sounds like some great southern soul number, with Christmas only a deep memory away. Nice and slow and soulful – ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Polydor, 1972. Good
Shouting storming uptempo funk from JB – and a track that really hints at his work at the end of the 70s! The cut screams dancefloor all over the place – and believe us, when James has bugs in his pants, he sure knows how to scream! Plus, this single also includes the oddly-numbered ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Myra Barnes (Vicki Anderson)

Super Good (parts 1 & 2)
King, 1970. Very Good+
An excellent James Brown single, and a rare one too! Vicki Anderson, for some strange reason recording under the name Myra Barnes, gives her answer to James' "Super Bad". The track's nice and funky, with a good stretched out groove, and backing by the James Brown band. 7-inch, Vinyl record
King, 1971. Near Mint-
(White label promo in a Starday-King sleeve. Labels have some light aged spots.) 7-inch, Vinyl record

Five Stairsteps & Cubie

Something's Missing/Tell Me Who
Buddah, Early 70s. Very Good (pic cover)
Haunting work from this legendary Chicago harmony group – and one of the few records to feature the enigmatic Cubie! "Something's Missing" has a really righteous feel – building in a slow, soulful Curtom way – with strings and horn parts giving way to some wonderfully ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Tamla, 1973. Very Good+
Gaye's huge sultry ballad from the mid 70s, oddly paired with a Norm Whitfield produced track on the flip, from sessions years before Let's Get It On, which Marvin didn't achieve the same success with as the Temps. 7-inch, Vinyl record
Atlantic, 1967. Near Mint-
(Still in an Atlantic sleeve, with a small number in pen.) 7-inch, Vinyl record
Chess, Mid/Late 60s. Very Good
(Blue fade label pressing. Vinyl has an edge chip, but has no affect on play. In a Chess sleeve.) 7-inch, Vinyl record
Revilot, Late 60s. Good
A great little soul track – and the record that put George Clinton on the map! "Testify" is a landmark cut – with a great rolling soul sound that takes up the heavy production style of Detroit, and points it towards the psychedelic future of the Mothership. The flipside's a ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Carla, 1966. Good
Great stuff! We love Deon Jackson – we love his voice, we love his songs, and we love the great production he gets from the legendary Ollie McLaughlin! 7-inch, Vinyl record
