Eleventh Hour's Greatest Hits

LP (Item 2142) 20th Century, 1974 — Condition: Very Good+
Eleventh Hour were a Bob Crewe studio project that had a hard rockin soul feel, with lots of flanged out falsetto vocals, and some bassy bits in between in sort of an early rock/funk kind of way. Sort of an AM crossover mid-70s sound, and one that's not really stone cold funky, but which still sounds pretty groovy. We can't tell if their actually supposed to be a soul band or not, but the sound is close enough, especially on tracks like "Gorilla Rock" and "So Good". Other titles include "He Did Ya Good", "Volcano", "Ride Ride Ride", and "Lady Marmalade".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Is This Whatcha Wont?
20th Century, 1976. Very Good+
Kind of a confrontational title, but still an excellent batch of grooves from The Maestro, with heavenly production, and lots of long drawn-out sexy grooves. Cuts include "Don't Make Me Wait Too Long", "I'm Qualified To Satisfy You", "Your Love – So Good I Can't Take ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gene Chandler

'80
Chi Sound/20th Century, 1980. Sealed
A nice record of modern soul that got a bit overlooked at the time because of the poor fate of the Chi-Sound label. The record's filled with Chicago soul talent like Tom Tom 84, Sonny Sanders, and Carl Davis, and it's a good updating of Gene's Chicago soul sound towards a style that's more modern ... Barry White

Let The Music Play
20th Century, 1976. Very Good
Barry White at the height of his powers – soaring out here with that amazing groove that never lets us down! The album's a mini-soul symphony throughout – tight beats, soaring strings, and that rock-solid Barry White vocal approach – that warm, fluid sound that's instantly ... LP, Vinyl record album
20th Century, 1979. Near Mint-
One of the last truly great albums that Barry White ever cut – with his solid sexy soul sound firmly in place, and a solid groove running through most of the tracks on the album. Barry's voice is still in fantastic shape, too – and it's a real treat to hear him open up on some of the ... LP, Vinyl record album
20th Century, 1975. Near Mint-
A great mid period sleeper from Barry White – and an album that's not as hit-heavy as his other work from the time, but still equally nice! The album's got a mellower groove than some of Barry's albums of the time – a laidback approach that's going more for an overall sound, and which ... LP, Vinyl record album

Love Unlimited Orchestra

My Sweet Summer Suite
20th Century, 1976. Very Good+
A wonderful album by Barry White – a bit later than some of the early 70s hits, but one of his most satisfying records overall! The perpetual favorite on the album is the great groover "Strange Games & Things", a slow sly funky track that's been sampled often over the years, ... LP, Vinyl record album
20th Century, 1973. Very Good
Great stuff from the girls who first put Barry White on the map! The record is the group's second – and by this point, Barry had developed that tight snapping drum sound that made his orchestral albums work so well. You'll hear it to good effect on most songs on the LP, which have a great ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stevie Wonder

Hotter Than July
Tamla, 1980. Very Good+ Gatefold
A bit smoother than early days, but still very nice and soulful – and did we expect any less from Stevie? The record's got a nicely flanged-out soul groove – with a style that kind of expands on the vocal and keyboard production of the early 70s, taking the groove towards a sound that ... Atlantic, 1976. Very Good-
A classic 70s soul soundtrack – and a dream of a combination! Curtis Mayfield wrote the soundtrack and produced the album – and the result is a killer batch of 70s soul tracks that matches Aretha's strong vocals with the hip Curtom sound of Chicago! Rudy Ray Moore

Eat Out More Often
Kent, Early 70s. Near Mint-
Classic stuff – Rudy's first album, and a fitting launch to his famous career of party records and live club performances! Rudy Ray Moore's second album, and almost hipper than the first – thanks to some key musical backings from The Fillmore St Soul Rebellion!
