Con Mi Viejo Amigo

LP (Item 21020) Fania, 1976 — Condition: Very Good+
Larry Harlow's groovy group was still hitting strong in the mid 70s, and they're captured here with their best lead vocalist – the great Ismael Miranda! The session features guest appearances by Tito Puente, Ismael Quintana, Pupi Legarreta, and Milton Cardona – and titles include "Senor Botanico", "Union De Dos", "Mentirosa", "Te Doy Mi Amor", and "Que Sera Lo Que Pelean".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Willie Colon & Ismael Miranda

Doble Energia
Fania, 1980. Very Good
Willie Colon helps Ismael Miranda get a new sense of energy in his music – backing the vocalist here with a tight set of salsa backings that are every bit the best Colon sound of the late 70s! The arrangers here are varied – and include Luis Cruz, Marty Sheller, and Luis Garcia – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Fania, 1975. Near Mint-
By the mid 70s, the New York Latin scene was boomin' so large it could easily fill venues like Yankee Stadium – as you'll hear on this excellent live set from the Fania All-Stars, a monster record that easily ranks with the best live Latin sides of the time – like Eddie Palmieri at Sing ... Fania, 1978. Very Good
A real gem recorded at the height of the Latin Disco years – a trio of female singers, set up in a style that's similar to the First Choice/Three Degrees Philly style of club work, but produced by Larry Harlow with loads of great New York Latin touches! There's actually a bit more salsa in ... LP, Vinyl record album

Orquesta Inmensidad

De Aqui Pa La Eternidad
Fania, 1989. Very Good+
An overlooked salsa smoker by Orquesta Inmensidad – a group who came to the Fania label later than most of the big stars, but who did some excellent work for the imprint during the 80s! Raul Gallimore leads the group on piano and vocals, and also handled arrangements as well – and the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ricardo Ray/Bobby Cruz

Los Durisimos
Alegre, 1968. Very Good+
The hard ones serve up a great blend of Latin soul, late 60s pop, and some heavy-hitting touches! Bobby Cruz is still singing a few of these tunes in his slightly more romantic style of the 60s – but the best cuts on the album have a snapping, upbeat quality that really makes them groove ... Machito & His Afro Cuban Orchestra

Vacation At The Concord
Coral, 1958. Very Good+
A great document of the crossover between the New York Latin scene and the Catskills – the upstate resort community that was as important to the Latin groups as the uptown clubs! Like many groups of the period, Machito's found a heck of a lot of work in the Catskills during the 50s – ... LP, Vinyl record album
