Machaca

LP (Item 20782) Discovery, 1981 — Condition: Very Good+

Very nice electric Latin jazz session from this legendary LA piano player, recorded with his groovy Salsa Picante group that includes Pancho Sanchez, Gary Foster, and Alex Acuna. Clare plays organ and electric piano, and is backed by an all-instrumental group of percussion and rhythm, plus nice flute and sax solos by Foster.. Includes the long groovers "Machaca" and "African Flutes" – plus "Clavo", "Cositas", "Novios", and "Gentle Breeze".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some pen on the back.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Jack Costanzo

Latin Fever
Liberty, Late 50s. Very Good+
One of the greatest albums of Latin Jazz ever recorded on the west coast during the 50s – and a landmark session from Jack "Mr Bongo" Costanzo! The album well earns its "fever" claim – as the set smokes from the very first note – Jack's bongos calling the pace ... LP, Vinyl record album
Montilla, 1930s. Near Mint-
Compilation of old (30s?) material by Cuban singer/pianist Bola De Nieve, put together as part of a "Cuban Folklore" series by Montilla. Roland Kirk

Volunteered Slavery
Atlantic, 1969. Very Good+
Our favorite album ever from Roland Kirk – and a beautiful mix of two different sides of his genius! Side one's got Roland doing these crazy takes on late 60's pop cuts like "My Cherie Amour" and "Say a Little Prayer", plus his own "songs", done with soulful ... LP, Vinyl record album

O'Donel Levy

Dawn Of A New Day
Groove Merchant, 1973. Very Good+
Totally wicked guitar work from the mighty O'Donel Levy – easily one of the hippest talents to ever work for the Groove Merchant label! Levy's got a sound here that's a bit like Wes Montgomery on some of his late 60s sides, but also a fair bit funkier overall – a style that's steeped ... LP, Vinyl record album
