Bons Tempos, Hein?!

LP (Item 20683) Philips (Brazil), 1979 — Condition: Very Good
A great 70s album from this excellent Brazilian harmony group! Their sound is a different from that of Quarteto Em Cy or Tamba Trio, and their singing is less filled with straight jazzy harmonies than it is some off-kilter vocal lines that weave together and challenge each other throughout the tracks – in a really beautiful way. While they're best known for their groundbreaking work from the 60's, this LP's a good batch of tracks from the 70's that still retains the feel of the group. Cuts include "Fantasia", "Angelica", "Nascente", and a cover of Caetano Veloso's "Tropicalia"!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original Brazilian pressing. Cover has lightly bent corners, some light stains, and tiny chipped spots at the seams.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Elenco (Brazil), 1971. Very Good-
Beautiful! This is perhaps one of the greatest records ever by this legendary Brazilian vocal group – and the album's a stunning mix of post-bossa arrangements, and the more baroque sort that some Brazilian groups were using at the time. Roberto Menescal produced the album – and one ... LP, Vinyl record album

Caetano Veloso

Cores Nomes
Philips (Brazil), 1981. Very Good+
Subtle brilliance from Caetano Veloso – just the sort of record to still remind you what a genius he can be, even when he's not hitting you over the head with his music! The style here is relatively straightforward MPB, but still done in a way that's head and shoulders above just about ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gal Costa

Personalidade
Philips (Brazil), 1970s/Early 1980s. Near Mint-
Gal's always been one of Brazil's greatest artists – whether she was singing strange raw tunes during her Tropicalia period, or moving into nice jazzy material during her later years. This set's a good introduction to her work, and it includes a lot of nice tracks that we don't always turn ... LP, Vinyl record album

Temporada De Verao – Ao Vivo Na Bahia
Philips (Brazil), 1974. Very Good+
Great live material from 1974, recorded in Bahia, and featuring Caetano, Gal, and Gilberto Gil – each performing tracks on their own! The quality's better than a lot of other Brazilian live albums from the early 70s, and the album's a strong one in Caetano's early 70s catalog – showing ... LP, Vinyl record album

Aquarela Do Brasil
Philips (Brazil), 1980. Near Mint- Gatefold
Gal Costa pays tribute to one of the greatest Brazilian songwriters of an earlier age – the great Ary Barroso, one of the first to also get his songs translated into other global languages too! The language here is all Portuguese, though – but nicely updated by Gal in that range of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Maria Bethania

Nossos Momentos
Philips (Brazil), 1982. Very Good+ Gatefold
A great little live set from Maria Bethania – one recorded with the lighter, looser sound she was using in the early 80s – and which stands as a nice contrast to her more dramatic concert performances of the 70s! The music director for the show is Gilberto Gil, and there's a bit of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Vinicius & Toquinho (1974)
Philips (Brazil), 1974. Very Good- Gatefold
Classic bossa mixed with more ambitious touches for the 70s – easily one of the greatest records ever to come from the team of Vinicius and Toquinho! The record has vocals by both, often layered on top of each other with a wonderfully spacious feel that spreads out beautifully between the ... LP, Vinyl record album
RGE (Brazil), 1967. Fair
Pure genius from a young Chico Buarque – simple, effective, straightforward tunes – and music that has had a resonance in Brazil for many decades since! Gal Costa

Minha Voz
Polygram (Brazil), 1982. Very Good+
Great stuff from Gal – even if the record is a lot smoother than her earlier work! The record's got a light jazzy style – like a lot of Gal's other work from the time – but this actually works quite well for her lovely voice, especially on the more intimate numbers. Titles ...
