Bossa Nova

LP (Item 20637) Imperial (Brazil), 1964 — Condition: Very Good
Early bossa album by the man who was one of the leading instrumentalists behind many of the bossa era's best singers. The set's fairly mellow, and all instrumental. Menescal plays guitar, and other instrumentation includes vibes & piano. The tracks have a light lilting bossa feel, with some occasional strings backing the group up. Other instrumentation includes flute, organ and Brazilian percussion, and the titles include "Nos E O Mar", "Fale De Samba Que Eu Vou", "Influencia Do Jazz", and "Menina Feia".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original mono pressing, in the plastic outer sleeve, with light wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A excellent set of instrumental bossa nova tunes by Roberto Menescal – one of Brazil's true musical geniuses of the 60s! The arrangements are bossa, but much more off-kilter than usual, with a weird edge, and groovy instrumentation, like vibes, that are not that common on Brazilian material ... LP, Vinyl record album

A beautiful early showcase of the compositions of Antonio Carlos Jobim – and one of the best late 50s albums from the lovely Sylvia Telles! One of Astrud Gilberto's greatest albums – and quite possibly our personal favorite! Although this one seems to be a "best of" collection of tracks by Joao Gilberto – it's actually mostly a repackaged version of his stellar Joao Gilberto album for Polydor from the early 70s! If you don't know that one, it's amazing – and it features Joao singing with only ... LP, Vinyl record album

Raul Seixas follows a similar path as Rita Lee, Caetano Veloso, and other important Brazilian artists of the 70s – and uses this live date to really pay tribute to the American music of the past that inspired his crazier work at the time – taking older songs of the 50s and 60s, but ...
