One of our favorite tunes from the old school – a beautiful blend of vocoder vocals, sinister keyboards, and some cool splashy beats! This one ties it all together – the sound of the streets, the experiments of the import scene, and the changing energy in the clubs – all with a perfect blend of moods, and that wicked "D-d-d-d-d-d-ominatrix" chant!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Loleatta's working here with Arthur Baker – changing her style considerably to fit his slick little electro beats on the blaster and master mixes! The single also features a mellower number in her older southern style – "Sweet Thing", which is a great late night cut. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Prelude, 1982. Very Good
An excellent 80s groove classic! James D-Train Williams sings it nice and deep on this catchy club cut – but the real groove is put over by Hubert Eaves, who does some excellent work on keyboards! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Billie Jean (long, inst)
Epic, 1982. Good
We know, this huge hit got well overplayed in its heyday, not to mention still getting thrown into rotation a bit more than some other deserving MJ cuts, but you can't argue with the solid Quincy Jones production that gave this track its top of the charts status! 12-inch, Vinyl record

An odd collaboration between Afrika Bambaataa and John Lydon that was sort of club hit at the time, but we're not sure what to make of it these days. Dense production by Bill Laswell with his standard heavy beats, guitar and synth lines. The vocal version has Bambaataa and Lydon predicting the end ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
