Sings For Someone You Love

LP (Item 20389) 20th Century, 1977 — Condition: Very Good
Gatefold

Who cares about "someone you love"? We're just happy that Barry White's singing for us! The album's one of the maestro's biggest selling albums of the 70s, and for good reason – as the whole thing's a sexy symphony all the way through, filled with as many stepping rhythms as it is soaring strings! The album features some key extended classic – including the sublime "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me" – the tune that gave the world a line that would forever be used in pickup bars. Other tracks are equally great – and include "You Turned My Whole World Around", "You're So Good You're Bad", "Oh What A Night For Dancing", and "Playing Your Game Baby".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light stainning around the edges.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

20th Century, 1976. Very Good
Carl Douglas' classic pop soul track about "Kung Fu Fighting" is an enduring favorite, as we're reminded everytime our local UHF station cops it for a promo for a martial arts double feature they're running on Saturday afternoon! The rest of the tracks on here aren't as great, but there's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gene Chandler

Get Down
Chi Sound/20th Century, 1978. Very Good+
The legendary Gene Chandler gets down, and gets down good – in this classic late 70s set of clubby numbers and upbeat groovers! The set's one of the best moments on the Chi-Soul series from producer Carl Davis – and features a nicely evolved version of earlier Chicago soul modes from ... LP, Vinyl record album
20th Century, 1973. Very Good+
Great stuff from the girls who first put Barry White on the map! The record is the group's second – and by this point, Barry had developed that tight snapping drum sound that made his orchestral albums work so well. You'll hear it to good effect on most songs on the LP, which have a great ... LP, Vinyl record album

Kinsman Dazz

Dazz
20th Century, 1979. Very Good+
Kinsman Dazz are even funkier here than before – showing off their Ohio roots, and pointing the way towards the classic Dazz Band sound they'd forge in the 80s! Rhythms are very tight throughout – but still often touched with the jazzy elements that made the group so great in their ... LP, Vinyl record album

Edwin Starr

Clean
20th Century, 1978. Near Mint-
A solid entry from Edwin Starr's late 70s comeback into the clubs – a set that's miles from his harder soul for Motown, but which still has some pretty great vocals overall! Edwin's working here with Lamont Dozier, who helps bring his Detroit groove into smoother California territory – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gene Chandler

'80
Chi Sound/20th Century, 1980. Sealed
A nice record of modern soul that got a bit overlooked at the time because of the poor fate of the Chi-Sound label. The record's filled with Chicago soul talent like Tom Tom 84, Sonny Sanders, and Carl Davis, and it's a good updating of Gene's Chicago soul sound towards a style that's more modern ... Complete Expressions Vol 2
Brunswick, 1973. Near Mint-
A mindblowing album of electric piano tracks! Don Walker was a funky pianist from Chicago who worked briefly with the Young-Holt Unlimited group – and who cut a rare few albums of his own for the Brunswick label. Hysear Don Walker

Complete Expressions
Brunswick, 1970. Near Mint-
A landmark album of electric piano grooves from Hysear Don Walker – the keyboardist on some of Young-Holt Unlimited's best albums! This album's much more in a jazz vein than some of the Young-Holt titles – with Walker playing electric keys on slower funky numbers that burn along at a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Motown Sounds

Space Dance
Motown, 1978. Near Mint-
Sort of a disco effort from Motown, featuring a group led by keyboardist Michael L. Smith, and featuring David T. Walker, Sonny Burke, James Gadson, Lee Ritenour, and Roland Bautista. The tracks are long dancefloor cuts, with a bit of a space disco sound, and titles like "Space Dance", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Two Man Sound

Capital Tropical
TSR, 1982. Near Mint-
Nice Latiny disco grooves from this Brazilian group – with a mixture of funky rhythms, and some sweet electric keyboards. Some of the lyrics are in Portuguese – but the main thing here is the groove, which is very nice, and a perfect realization of the disco samba sound. Side one ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dalton & Dubarri

Choice
Hilltak/Atlantic, 1979. Near Mint-
A free soul classic from the Dalton & Dubarri team – smooth and sweet soul with a nice slick finish, and a real talent for coming up with a catchy hook! A few cuts get a bit disco, in a bad way, but there's plenty of great midtempo numbers that sound as great as the earlier work by the ... LP, Vinyl record album
