This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Booker T & The MGs – definitely doing their thing on this late 60s cooker – and moving their instrumental sound into a whole new range than before! The album has a very groovy feel – nice and tight, with especially great organ and guitar lines – often tuned towards 60s ... LP, Vinyl record album
Very hip work from Booker T & The MGs – an album that has them standing out under a pier by the ocean on the cover – clearly a long way from their Memphis roots! The sound here still has a good dose of those roots, though – but it also shows them picking up some hipper ... LP, Vinyl record album
A legendary set from Eddie Floyd – the southern soul singer's first-ever album, and still the one that defines the sound of his career! The set was issued on Stax, but also helped to shape the sound of Atlantic Records soul in the 60s – a powerful bridge that crossed over big at the ... LP, Vinyl record album
A beautiful mix of gospel soul and heavy Memphis production – and the kind of heavy soul album that made Rance Allen one of Stax's best new artists during the 70s. David Porter produced and arranged, and the album has some great electric keyboard work by Rance that provides a perfect ... LP, Vinyl record album
Ahhh, good ol' Mel & Tim – possibly our favorite soul duo ever, and a really dynamic pair that carve some great new territory away from the path set by Sam & Dave! The album's a bit of a comeback for the duo, as you'd guess from the title – even though it was only recorded a ... LP, Vinyl record album
A lesser-known gem from Rance Allen and group – recorded during their incredible early run at Stax! The sound here seems even more powerful than on the group's first album – a wicked blend of gospel and soul, served up with relatively spare instrumentation that features keyboards and ... Classic Sam & Dave work for Stax – a searing batch of hard soul tracks that forever redefined the concept of a male soul duet! This was the sound that put Sam & Dave over the top hard – and which left a generation of similar acts trying to catch up. The album sports a sublime ... LP, Vinyl record album
A legendary album from Chicago – recorded by a group with ties to Sun Ra, Phil Cohran, and Earth Wind & Fire! The set's got a sound that more than lives up to all those references – a vibe that's jazzy and soulful, yet often quite righteous too – imbued with the sort of ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of our favorite albums ever from Cameo – the group's third release! The album's got a great approach that hints at more sophisticated soul styles, but which is still firmly in charge of the bass-driven grooves that made their early albums so great – a compressed approach to the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Classic cuts on Salsoul are remixed by the legendary Larry Levan – guru of the Paradise Garage scene, and a mixer who always knew how to make the floor move! Tracks include "I Got My Mind Made Up" by Instant Funk, "Double Cross" by First Choice, "First Time ... LP, Vinyl record album
Chuck Brown and his Soul Searchers group are past the arch jazzy funk of their days on Sussex Records – and they're heading more towards that ensemble sound that would drive the DC Go Go scene in the early 80s. The formula is heard to best effect on the big hit "Bustin Loose", an ... LP, Vinyl record album
What can we say? All the best-remembered club tracks by one of the world's most unique soul artists. We're much more partial to these soulful club cuts than his later hi-energy singles, though each side is mixed into a medley, with the first side featuring "Do You Wanna Funk", "Dan ...
