❔
One of the most obscure Blue Note 10" albums of the early 50s – a rare US presentation of great overseas work from vibes legend Lionel Hampton – a set of recordings that contains a great surprise – namely some excellent early work from tenor genius Clifford Scott! Scott's a name that you might recognize from his later material with Bill Doggett – where his tenor was a key part of that group's success – but here in the early 50s, he sounds great with Hampton – and definitely brings a depth to these tracks that you might not expect from the Parisian setting! Other players are strong, too – and are a mix of Americans and Frenchmen, with Jimmy Cleveland on trombone, Billy Mackel on guitar, Walter Williams on trumpet, William Montgomery on electric bass, and Claude Bolling on piano. The set features four long tracks – "Always", "More & More Crazy", "Real Crazy", and "September In The Rain".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original US pressing, with deep groove – a fantastic copy! Back cover has some light wear near the top seam, but overall the cover is fantastic – as is vinyl.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
