Forever On My Mind

LP (Item 200140) Easy Eye Sound, 1964 — Condition: Near Mint-
(2022 issue, still sealed with hype sticker.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Percy Mayfield

Best Of Percy Mayfield
Specialty, 1950s. Near Mint-
A nice collection of Percy's classic work for Specialty Records from the 50s – issued here in a full LP package from 1970, when Percy was enjoying a bit of a revival. The work's a strong batch of tunes with a sophisticated smooth and bluesy feel – clearly a strong percursor to soul ... LP, Vinyl record album
Piedmont, 1963. Very Good+
A set that marks the first-ever time that Mississippi John Hurt recorded material that was destined for an album, not singles – a set with titles that include "Louis Collins", "Spike Driver Blues", "Spanish Fandang", "My Creole Belle", "Joe Turner ... LP, Vinyl record album

Albert Collins

Trash Talkin
Imperial, 1969. Very Good+
Fantastic early work from Albert Collins – almost as much of a funk album as a blues one! This set's not really funky in the same sense as many of Collins' contemporaries in the soul scene of the time – but it's got some great funky elements, especially in the drums and guitar, which ... Stinson, Early 50s. Very Good
One of those great Stinson label early sessions from Josh White – with titles that include "Outskirts Of Town", "One Meat Ball", "TB Blues", "Careless Love", and "Motherless Children". LP, Vinyl record album

T Bone Walker

Funky Town
Bluesway/ABC, Late 60s. Very Good+
Not as all-out funky as some of the funky blues albums on Chess at the time – but still nicely funky, and a very different album than usual for T Bone! The record has Walker's vocals and guitar backed by some larger arrangements that have a nice little bounce – lots of electric bass ... LP, Vinyl record album
Spivey, Late 1920s/Early 1930s. Very Good+
(White label pressing in a standard tip-on cover.) LP, Vinyl record album

Eddie Cleanhead Vinson

Cherry Red
Bluesway, Late 60s. Very Good+
Eddie makes a nice little comeback here – singing in a style that's perhaps a bit rootsier than some of his classic sides, which actually had him working in a more sophisticated jazzy style – but which are still pretty nice, thanks to some good hard soul production. Titles include ... LP, Vinyl record album

Little Milton

Blues N Soul
Stax, 1974. Very Good+
Baaad bluesy work from Little Milton – one of his killers for Stax, and a record that's equally heavy on the soul tip too! There's a strong Memphis vibe going on here – thanks to arrangements from James Mitchell, and backings from the Memphis Horns – who really do a good job of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ike Turner & The Kings Of Rhythm

Black Man's Soul
Pompeii, 1969. Very Good+
Great stuff – and one of the funkiest albums that Ike Turner ever recorded – done during a late 60s moment when his fame with Tina Turner was really on the rise – but much more like some funky 45 take on the pre-Tina work he'd been doing in the 50s! This set's a batch of obscure ... LP, Vinyl record album

Laid Back

Keep Smiling
Sire, 1983. Very Good+
It takes a record like this one to remind us just what a magical crossover time the post-disco, post-punk days of the early 80s could be! Take two white guys from Denmark – Tim Stahl and John Guldberg – give them a drum machine and some funky beats, and out comes the breakdance classic ... LP, Vinyl record album
